With $4k you can buy a nice S4 TurboII that will most likely last longer than a year if you maintenance it properly, and will totally SMOKE just about any Honda that's even close to stock... Just gotta have the desire to put the legwork in to find it...

I'm not sure about a stock prelude si tkaing an na 7 in the straights, s4 maybe but an s5 na will easy keep up and pass a lude in a drag. I beat my friends 95 lude si no problem. And for $4000 u can get a really nice 7. I paid $4500 for a bone stock 1990 GXL in perfect working condition w/ the cleanest straightest body I've ever seen. Less than 100k on the body and less than 1k on the rebuilt engine. Also the Na has less reliability issuses than the T2. I would say get a s5 na, do bpu and have the time of your life. sounds like your mind might be made up already to.
ps- I have a friend w/ a 96 lude si that wasn't vtec they do exist so watch out. He ended up blowing the engine and getting a jdm h22a, now has over 250 hp.

There, I fixed it so I can understand your question.

A stock RX-7 couldn't fall out of a tree fast. From what I remember, a Prelude with the H-22 engine is a bit faster. I have a friend whose sister happens to own one of these. It's really funny that she wont drive it. She thinks it will be some collector car. The Prelude that is. In all honesty, if this is your first car, an RX-7 might not be the car for you. They are very intolerant of neglect. Much more-so than any other cars I can think of. If you aren't mechanically inclined, then go for the Honda. Those cars are like assembling Legos compared to working on the RX-7. The RX-7 will be your own "Wallet Cleaner" I must digress, The RX-7 is a blast to drive though. Not to mention around here, I never see a 2nd gen.

Please don't buy a Rx-7.

Since when is a S5 all that quicker then an S4? It has like 14 more horse power and the same tq. All it does is make more horse power at a higher RPM. Don't forget that in many cases the S5 weights more.

I think it should be more imporant to get a car with a LSD, the options and the color you want then it should be getting an S5 for the extra "power". After all save you money and buy a nice intake/exhaust set up.

As for Prelude. Most here forget that the Prelude is typically one of the best handeling FWD cars around, I know the 97-01 is most certianlly up there. Greated, the RX-7 is also one of the best RWD platforms around, comprable to the venerble Porsche 944.

Think of it this way.
RX-7 = a less expensive Japanese Porsche 944.
Prelude (92-96) = a fancy Ford Probe/Mazda MX-5

Personally, a comprable, but more fussy car is the Volkswagen Corrado, only its ten times as hot. Also, if you set on a Prelude, wait till Fast&Furious:Tokoyo Drift comes out, I'm sure prices will sag as Honda Tuners dump their passe FWD's for RWD JDM-DROFTIZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

very true, the s5 isn't much faster, but it did help, and it prolly made it easier for me to beat my friends lude cuz i have lsd and the big thing that i didn't think to accouint for my fc had 10k on the motor and compression tested like a beast, while the prelude had over 100k miles on it. bottom line the fc is just as fast as it (if not faster) and teh prelude is overratted cuz it got vtec. don't get me wrong i like them but having driven both i say the fc is the much better car.

When did all these Rhode Islanders come out of the woodwork?

(Sorry to threadjack, but: Rhode Islanders: Go to the MA meet on April 2nd!)

It's quite simple, the choice between a RX-7 and a Prelude: Flip a coin.

I never asked questions as to whether I should buy an rx7 or not. I researched and made the decision on my own, and ya know what? I'm damn satisfied.

I don't think my rx7 could smoke ANYTHING on the straightaway, but if it's on the circuits or winding roads, prepare for some upsets.

Buck for buck, you will never find a better handling car than an RX7.

So the decision is yours to make, not ours. You can't be wishy-washy with these cars.

these cars are for people who like spending every ounce of free time fixing some stupid little problem, but you know what? thats what we got one for, no other car except muscle cars brings a sence of pride, and brotherhood out in a person. everytime i see a fellow 7 on the road i always get a wave or a nod, witch i promptly return

bottom line, if you like cars, getting dirty, and comming close to pulling your hair out then buy one

I would hardly compare the 2... The RX-7 looks better, weighs alot less, has better suspension, and basically outperformed an equally optioned 944 in all aspects except drag... Oh and the power potential is much higher from a rotary than one of those shitty low buck Porsche engines... You're paying for the name...

You're kidding right? Those cars are slow, unreliable, heavy pieces of steaming monkey ****... And yea I'm talking about the supercharged G60 model, which you're gonna pay quite a bit for (considering it's "actual" value anyways)...

Although, the RX8 drivers tend not to be as friendly as other RX7 owners.

- In my experiences anyway

thats because we bought our cars because they are classics, and we are enthusiasts...they bought RX8's because they are having a mid-life crisis and they think its "cute"...

EDIT: wow...3 people posted at the same time...mine was in reply to the RX8 comment...

Personally, I'd go with the RX-7. My #1 reason saying this, it's got a wankel rotary engine! I've personally other than a 67' 427 vetter have never been in anything more exciting than my RX-7, it's rear wheel drive, you get some decent horsepower, and it handles like a dream! Second, you will probably be one of the few people around your area who have one. I've had mine for a year and I only remember seeing two or three other Rx-7's around. Im not gonna trash the prelude because it is indeed a decent car, but there's just so much more you get out of an RX-7. I hope this is of help for you!
