RX7 man! I told you I'll take you for a ride in the T-66 streetport 94FD.. And once the TII is back on the road. Trust me you won't want the honda. Besides I said I would keep my eye out for another TII.

TII all the way man, my first car was a TII and it still is, 2 years whit him now and i haven't had any problem. and maintenace is not so different from other cars, engine oil change every 3000 miles, fuel filter etc. my TII is been a blast and is so nice to see that you are maybe the only one in your area running one lol, in the other hand i see like 10 preludes on the road every day.

For your first car, get the prelude.

Pros: It will be quicker, it will get better gas mileage, it will require less maintenance, it will hold more of your highschool and college friends, and it will be less of a worry due to it being less rare. The prelude will also have the advantage in classing in SCCA if you plan on actually racing.

Cons: Not unique, has arguably worse handling (though if you do suspension mods to both they will be almost equal - and honestly a fwd car tends to perform better in autox until you find a really good driver). You haven't mentioned a rotary engine once - only reason you would want to be NA RX-7 is if you love the platform AND the engine. I have a rotary half block in my room, and 8 years ago my brother had a friend with an RX-7 with a half block in his college dorm.

Other: Don't buy a T2 for your first car, or in my oppinion as your daily driver - you will inevitably get in accidents at some time in your life and if you reduce the chances by 2 it will make twice as nice and quick of a classic car. You should also probably reconsider the FD, I have made up my mind that I'm skipping over it due to its short engine life, etc and an RX-8 will soon be in the same price range (assuming mazda keeps making them).

I am almost 20, my first car was a dodge dakota which was involved in two highschool related accidents that likely would have totaled an RX-7. I liked the FD body style and considered a rotary engine in my jet ski before I bought a cheap RX-7 and fixed it up soon after turning 18 - I then sold it and bought a little bit nicer series 5. I do not daily drive my RX-7. I autocross and visit a small track for racing experience.

I do not have my car at college, but wish that I had a car at college. My car is in the condition that I don't want the original paint to be exposed to the elements. Also, being able to carry more than one of my friends would be ideal and has me searching for a daily driver.

ive pulled a length or two on na integra with the vtec with exhuast,intake, and header. my mods are in my sig, so the rx7 definatly isnt very much slower, maybe in stock form (but i wouldnt know cuz my car never has been stock in my possession).

isnt the integra pretty close to the same thing? i would never trade any RWD car for a fwd car, alot less fun.

If you want an RX-7, you'd better be handy, because when things break, going to the dealership to fix it will leave you penniless.

I daily drive my 86 sport, fun car.... very fun..

But my T2 is still stored waiting for a new engine heh.

Ok well if you want a car faster through corners it'd have to be a RWD, but stock the prelude might be a lil faster on the straight. I got an Rx7 after owning a Honda I had as a daily driver, and I love this Rx7. I've had it for over a year and it's been good and bad. The only thing I wish I had with the FC is that I didnt have to work on it so much, but I got that "insanity" as described earlier in this thread.

- For better fun and less worries get a Prelude and fix it up the right way. I've seen nice preludes before but not often. Don't expect a prelude to be super fast in the corners....some can be but I've only seen those on Best Motoring videos.

- For countless hours of blood, sweat, and tears get an FC. But after all the torture it will make you love your car even more and never want to get rid of it!!!!!

man i dont know about you guys but i would MUCH rather work on my seven than ANY FWD, all that **** is crammed in most cases and it bugs the crap out of me, RX7's are easy *** cars to work on IMO. also, you wouldnt be asking this question if you wanted an rx7

What you are missing is that the RX-7 is a Sports Car, while the 'lude is a Sports Coupe. Two different buggers. Its like comparing a Civic Del Sol to a Miata. One is a sports car, one is an FWD economy car.

Straight line performance wise the FC and the 'lude are very simular. Except you won't have torque steer with a RX-7.

The RX-7 will out handle a 'lude in a heart beat when it comes to anything, but poor weather.

Parts are simular in cost. Remember you are buying an import, and Honda repair parts typically are in the same range and its been my experience that Honda's product is not even close to as long term reliable as Mazda's. Don't believe me??? Look at the percentage of Honda's that are still on the road after 20 years, vs the percentage of Mazda product at that same age. Furthermore there are mutiple FC owners that regularly post here with 250K+ miles on their FC with the original engine. Here in Northern California you almost never see a Honda product with 200k+ miles on it still running well as a daily driver.

But given that this is your first car, and you obvously don't know much mechanically about cars, you will be able to take a Honda to many more places to get it fixed than a Mazda. With the RX-7 you will need to be your own mechanic, and expect that because you are buying a 15+ year old car (any 15+ year old car) you will need to do work on the car. It will need work no matter what car or brand you pick.

Weak front rotor. Then after geting the bitch started....slipping transmission. It'll go in first, but would not go in 2nd. Since I just got accepted, I'll buy a T2 this time.....and manual.

Edit: and constant flat tires which i didn't have the money for.

I've never understood this type of question. I mean you're on an RX-7 site, what do you think people are going to say? Of course the 7. I bet if you asked the same question on a honda site they would say the prelude...personally I have had both hondas and 7's; a 95 civic and a 93 integra gsr and 3 FC's (2 N/A's and my current t2). All the 7's win hands down...even though my gsr was fast as hell (faster than the n/a's) the rear wheel drive is so much more fun and rewarding to drive...thats my $.02
