Reinstalling Intake and Exhaust Housings
I recently took the intake and exhaust housings off of my s4 turbo to get a better look at the turbines because I had a s5 turbo in the mail. Turns out that the s5 turbo is no good so I need to put the s4 back together. Can I just bolt them right back on?? Are there any balancing issues related to just the housings?? Do I need to seal it in any way, or do the metal to metal connections suffice?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

As long as you didn't nick, bump, or remove the compressor/turbine wheels, no problems. Just make sure you clock the housings the way they were when you took them off.

Im going to clear up this thread for people who dont know what the hell hes talking about. i talked to him on AIM.
Hes got a messed up s5 turbo... END OF STORY.
His s4 turbo cartridge has a bad oil seal on the turbine side. The "bell" has tons of carbon built up inside as well. I told him that if he carefully marks the alignment of his turbine and compressor, only then he can disassemble his turbo and replace the oil seal (9 bux from turbocity). He says the turbo has zero play in all directions so the bearings are probably still fine.
He is worried about his turbo becoming unbalanced when he puts the cartridge back together. He also wants to get a new turbo in the future.
I believe his turbo has less than 70k on it, and his engine blew 3-4 months ago (turbo is perfect) The new engine is almost ready to be started.
*DcamcoII - The housings just press together. There are no gaskets or seals between the housings and the cartridge, but it doesnt hurt to use a thin coat of high temp rtv if you are really worried.
