Rebuilt VS Buying Engine From Mazda

I have been warned not to let anyone rebuild my engine; rather I should buy a reman. from Mazda. Something to do with the rotors and how they are reconditioned. Apparently, Mazda uses new parts. Can someone give me some advice. I am new to rotaries, so please excuse my ignorance.

Your request for information leaves a lot to be desired. However, I will give you some advice. If all these conditions are met, typically a rebuilt engine is cheaper than buying one from Mazda. If the person doing the rebuild is skilled in the process. If all the parts are measured for tolerances, wear, so on and replaced if out of specification. If you follow proper break in procedures. There are other things to consider such as what caused your engine to die. Significant housing damage will raise the price of the rebuild. Maybe if you provided more information we could give you a better idea of what to expect as far as price.

Well if you get it done at a good place, like ISC Racing services in winter haven florida: http://iscracing.net/ or Rotary resurrection in morristown tennessee: http://www.rotaryresurrection.com/ Both of these shops are known for their great services. I really don't think a mazda reman is worth it, sure its a nice motor that should last a while but if you get it done at ISC or rotary resurrection then it will last just as long, if not longer, while being faster then the mazda reman.

I believe this is a good general idea of Mazda remans vs. shop rebuilds:

If you plan on keeping your engine/car stock, go with the reman. Modifying your car might cause some warranty troubles

If you plan on modding your car/engine, go with a rebuild from a good company

modifying your engine/car = intake, exhaust, fuel components (injectors, pump, pressure regulator, fuel control), engine porting, etc

There are plenty of professional builders in Florida, technically a rebuild (by a profesional) will be cheaper; that is assuming everything is under spec conditions. On top of that you can have the engine ported, balanced, etc (what ever you want). On the other side you will get a stock, used, under spec engine from Mazda if you wish to go that route, however read the fine lines about the warranty before you make a decision.
