rebuilt engines

was just looking on the net and was wondering if there is anybody who knows if there are shops that would just sell an fc88 streetported engine by itself without sending your engine up there to be rebiult?

one more thing could some one post a link to the first reliablity mods for an fc, read the faq but I don't think that was covered, correct me if I'm wrong though.

thanx

I believe there are at least a couple in vendors in the U.S. that sell Mazda "reman" engines and will street port them for you (for a price, of course). You should be able to find them using a web search...

I would just buy a blown engine and send it off to be rebuilt.

Almost all rebuilders are going to require your core, including mazda who places a hefty price on it's value, approaching $1000 last I heard. Cores and core parts are getting damned hard to find in decent used condition these days, and new part cost is going up while new part availability is going down. IF people are going to continue to demand engines they will need to be prepared to supply USEABLE cores. Rebuilders cannot pull engine parts out of their asses, you know.

Why people do not understand these concepts is beyond me.

Kevin is right. I checked with Mazda. They want a $1,000 core charge upfront for a reman. That's one of the reasons why I am towing my 88 10AE from ABQ, NM to Kevin in TN to do the rebuild and streetport. Nothing but glowing reports of your work and integrity, my man. I'll call you later this month to discuss. BTW, congratulations on your family addition. Cute!

The Deal

the thing is I'm living in jamaica, and the thing is that there is basically nobody that knows anything about rotary engines, much less rebuilding one, thus the question.

the blown engine idea,is a good idea, but what would I do with mine when I swap it out, sell it on ebay maybe? or give some guy on the forum for a really great deal?

thanx for the responses

The procedure is the same for you, as anyone else, other than the shipping aspect of the deal, which will frankly eat you up. Depending on the rebuilder/supplier, you will call up and order the engine (some may require that you ship it in first). You will recieve your rebuild and be charged for the rebuild cost plus a hold placed for the core charge, be it a few hundred or $1000. ONly when you return your core will you be credited back for the core charge. Obviously if you send your core up front there should be no core charge, unless your core is totally junk and requires most of the hard parts to be replaced.

your right RotaryResurrection about the shipping that for sure but i was thinking that shipping to some where like florida would make alot more sense than say, cali.
pettit seems to be the best bet, but what I would like to avoid is the shipping cost to and from jamaica. it would make sense to just be from one american location to the other then jamiaca. then again it could add up to be the same.
