Watching donut media the other day I was drooling over the low miles 10th anniversary edition episode. It got me thinking about how many of these rare models they were talking about were made and how many still exist today?
As far as I can tell classic collector car's website, Japanese classic cars website and this wonderful site has show that mazda produced:
100 GTUs models, about 80 are on the sited list, 20 or the registered list.
1500 10AE models, looks like a few hundred still exist thanks to the registry list here!
1500 Infini models... Unfortunately i cannot find any registry lists. I found less than a dozen on facebook.
So I am curious how many members here have one or all three of these models and what are their current conditions. What are your plans with them?
I have an 89 GTUs. Short term plan is to get my Fueltech ECU installed and learn to tune. longer term fabricate an adapter to run FD intake manifold(s) either just the upper like Aaron Cake did or the complete upper and lower set. See if that helps n/a power. I feel in theory it should. Then I'm going to the dark side and going turbo. I would like to eventually put in a 13B-RE block and use my FD manifolds and ditch the 6-port but we'll see what happens. I would also like to add the front subframe brace and a brace between the rear shock towers to stiffen the chassis. I would like a set of factory side skirts or some decent replicas. Some sort of front lip or splitter on the front and a rear diffuser and eventually fix what little rust I have and paint it.
ETA. I'll see if I can get a picture of it's current state later. The one in Joe's old thread is when it was tore apart for the RX-8 rear end install. It's pretty much the same except I got some wheels.
What are the rarest model rx7 FC's?

You're missing quite a few rare models, and the numbers on the Infini models are quite different. Here's what I found when I created the Japanese FC Database last year.
S4 GT-Limited Special Edition: 896
Infini (first): 502
Infini (Automatic version): 101
Infini II: 804
S5 GT Limited Special Edition: 824
S5 GT-R Winning Limited: 1000
Infini III: 1462
Infini IV: 854
Final Version Cabriolet: 135
The 10AE is essentially a LHD Infini II with different badging. Also, there is one Infini 1 that I've encountered here on the forum too.

oh wow! going to need a big Pokémon ball to catch em all! I would love to see pictures of all these models!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but they were basically an S5 Turbo II without the turbo or hood scoop.
Not really the case, though it's a very common misconception. There's quite a few differences, but it would be a better summation to say: a TII without the whole TII driveline (engine, trans, driveshaft, half-shafts, diff, final drive, etc). There are posts here which dive much deeper and more detailed into the differences, so I won't try and do that from memory. I've done a TII swap to one, so I can confirm they are quite a bit different. Though, there are some similarities like the seats, aero, brakes, etc. My guess is this is the foundation of the misinform. Someone a long time ago probably said something like "it's kind of like a TII without the turbo" as an overall generalization, then it devolved into "it IS a TII without the turbo" through the passing of information and a game of internet telephone.

it predates the internet. i can remember magazines back then (and i think even the Motorweek TV show, if i correctly recall), said it in their reviews.

I'm not sure of the rarity of this car, but it was hands-down the weirdest FC I've ever encountered: It was an '86 non-sunroof car with seemingly no options, save for Air Conditioning.
It had hand crank windows, AM/FM radio with cubby under it, manual steering, no storage bins (blank carpeted slab where the bins would be,) high-back seats, no rear wiper, an aluminum spare wheel, aluminum hood, and 4 lug phone dials. I don't remember if it had the early red clock or not. I believe it had the lightweight (non-GXL style) carpet.

my first Rx7 was like that, it had 3 options, the alloy wheels (steel wheels were standard! super rare), cruise control, and a tape deck. kind of an odd grouping

I had a couple models exactly like that over the years. Nice arctic silver ones. I thought they would make the best track car base for the weekend enthusiasts. Not really rare but absolutely neat!
I actually ran across this ad today on marketplace for this exact model we had.

Yup, and upbadging scammers are everywhere too. If it's RHD, ask me before you bid on anything. There's a good chance that "infini" is a fake. I've caught a few fake Bathurst FDs, plus a fake Type R just by running a Build Sheet on them.
