Quick one about MSD 6AL install....

I just wanted to make sure this wiring diagram/write-up applies to the 6A and the 6AL. All the wire colors match but i just wanted to make sure that it was correct.
http://fc3spro.com/TECH/HOWTO/CDI/cdi.html

Also what should i do about the cylinder select wires? Cut none and its for an 8cyl. cut the red and it for 6 cyl. cut both red and blue and it's 4cyl. I would assume i would go with 4cyl. but im at a lose, seeing as we really dont NEED any cylinders.

i cut mine for 4 cyl. my wires for my Mallory ignition were color coded slightly different. but from looking at the wiring diagrams that came with it, and that How TO, i figured it out.

for the little red and little black wire, mine was orange and brown (if i recall exact). but it was mostly all the same. get that HOW TO down, then look at ur ignition, if it all matches up then it is the same. if something is different, look at what the ignition diagram says its for and figure it out.

Installed on the leadings?
Technically, it fires as a 4-cylinder - one spark event per rotation of the crank.
What it's for is the rev limiter.
Most of the time the rev limiter is useless, so you really don't need to cut any wires.

would having a msd 6al in my stock GXL help with gas mileage?

yes, im installing it on the leading coils. One of the major reasons for installing the msd to get a rev limiter seeing as my ecu has none. Knight Sport Tuned S5 Turbo ecu.

You either need to get two more boxes or rig an RPM power-cut circuit to the trailings.
Even if the 6AL triggers on the leadings, the trailings will easily keep pushing the RPM's higher.
This is what I mean having just the one box on the leadings makes the rev limit function a non-issue.

so how much does a MSD 6al run for. For the amount of the MSD to MPG is it worth it to get?

wouldn't it slow the revs though? I shift around 6500 so i was going to set the limiter at around 7000 or 7200 and hopefully if i misshift it wont rev as high becouse the revs will be slowed. Will that work at all?

it slows it down. but still revs. im not sure how long it would take to pay off for the extra MPG. its seemed to make mine easier to start also, and some more GO in the top of third for sure.

With the engine revving that fast and that high, it doesn't work well enough to be effective.

If you're curious, start the engine and unplug the electrical connector to the leading coil pack.
Rev the engine...
Although it's a bit sluggish at low RPM's, the engine revs perfectly fine above 4kRPM.

oh well back to the drawing board on this one. I installed the msd already works great for what it is but i really wanted to use it as a rev limiter. So how would i go about wiring up a rev limiter?
