ok i have decided to get the rx7 for first car a 86-91 n/a . now i want to make it at least 14 sec car with just no more than $1000 to spend, is it possible for a every day driver if it is tell what parts i need.
Weight reduction is your biggest trap time saver.
Then practice driving.
Then a cold air box, cone filter, exhaust header, free flow exhaust.
Then more weight reduction & practice..

lol well turbos are bolted on .. and if this guy is affraid of a little juice i dont think he needsa to be doing 14 second passes .. the whole point to making a car fast is to drive it that way ... atleast thasts my own opinion .. and for 1 k .... id be surprised if he got his exhaust that cheep ..... but yeah just toss the baby its bottle then wahoooo .. but i strongly sudjest doing some technicle research and try and understand your engine .. once you understand it it will be much easier to make it perform the way you want it ... its all about discovering its flaws and improving on them ,,,, 2 of rx7's main flaw are its stock breathing capabilitys ... so do a good intake . and a good exhaust and u should notice some significant power increases .hell racing beat claims to have a 28% hp increase at the wheels with their full exhaust thats about 40 horses if u cant notice that then somthing is wrong lol but yes do some research and good luck witheverything
I'm sure it can be done
I've been for a ride in a 13sec "bolton" NA - S5 with weight reduction, aftermarket clutch, header, intake, exhaust, etc, etc.
Nitrous = best bang for buck. Too easy to hit 13's though
I think someone forgot to tell me that 7's are suppossed to be slow... oops.

ok i want it to handle too i know that i like curves alot more than strait but i dont want to run nitrous i wan tust simple stuff at least to get 14.5 or lower than 15
For a $1000 you can get exhaust and little else. You'll need more money to break out of the 15s. Not a lot more but heres what your looking at.
Clutch
Full exhaust
Intake
All possible weight reduction
Good tires
Complete tune-up... not only fluids, but check all sensors, check and fix/replace everything!
That will get you close to where you wanna be, but driving is everything. Once you get the car you'll mysteriously find more money to spend on it, such is the norm.

With no more than a grand I'm gonna bet you can't do it.
Or the car will have no thing but three pedals, a steering wheel, and maybe a seat.
Take that 1k and buy four new tires and do a complete tune-up. It will make it a much nicer car. Not gonna run 14s but it will be a much nicer car than an improperly built car that runs 14s.

For 1000$ I can build an exausht, buy a header, an intake, get an SAFC.
The exhaust it what people pay alot for. RB makes a good system, but damn the price shows. I bought 2 N1 cans(used) an xr-1(used),header(like new never used but at a used price) piping(new), for about 450$ and welded up a system. For an extra 50$ a muffler shop will probably weld it up for you.
The trick is buying used and not new. And shopping around. Making parts instead of buying, and not buying usless crap that says it'll add power.

I don't see it being that hard to break into the 14's on a stock port NA with bolt ons. Look for the lightest model (no sunroof, no power windows etc..) and you should have a little bit of a head start. Make sure its in a good, driveable condition first. Throw a racing beat header or equivalent and get rid of the cats, and find a shop to run a single pipe to the back with a universal muffler or something if you want to save money, or look for a used exhaust. Make sure the 5th/6th port actuators are working, or remove the sleeves. Ditch the air box and throw a cone filter on it or rig some sort of intake. Advancing the timing a bit will help a little. Get something to tune it with if you have money left (Apexi SAFC, HKS FCON etc.). I don't really see why you wouldn't be able to hit the 14's if you have a good clutch and some good tires and you practice. Learning how to launch the car will make a huge difference.
Also i don't see why you people are still posting to drop V8's under the hood, as if you think it's impossible to do it on a NA 13B. He obviously asked specifically pertaining to the stock motor with bolt ons.

86 was lightest year it appears to me. to hit 14's itd definatly have to be light, and in GREAT running condition, including a pretty fresh engine, and everything working properly. also, u will have to be a real good driver.
