Question about swap?

I have an 1987 rx7 5 spd. It was originally an automatic and ever since i swapped to a five speed i dont feel as though the transmission mount is strong enough. I have headers exhaust, tII transmission, 4.88 rearend, i am planning on getting a microtech lt-8. In order to fix the mount problem and drivetrain issue i want to get another rx7 that has a 5spd originally. If i do that i would like to get an 89-91 body, will everything i have swap over to it or will i need to stick with an 1987 rx7, or what all would i need to get to swap everything besides a new transmission mount? Thank you.

Doing teh swap is going to be a pain for sure if you use the S5 body, as the ecu and wiring harness's are not fully compatible. You would be best off just finding another S4 shell then swap everything again, or just find one thats running for about teh same price usually.

well i would be using a microtech and that harness. Other than the wires what else would i need to swap or is that the only thing thats not compatible?

Well im unsure why you would want to swap a s4 engine and such into the s5 at all...s5's are stronger engines just a bit more involved IMHO. But finding an S4 in good shape would benefit you more if you just want to throw the motor in and do it properly, they are lighter as far as unmodded goes but a bit older and cheaper. Not sayign you shouldnt get teh S5 but S4's have more parts out atm for cheaper. But as for the other items you may or may not need consult an engine builder or someone who has possibly doen a similar swap. As ive already stated putting teh S4 engine into a S5 car is like throwing a 4banger into a car originally equipped with a v8.

well you get the general concept. It would be a cheaper swap to go with the 86-88 body as opposed to the 89-91 body. But he can do it if he wishes, jsut throwin simple logic into the wind, wince most of us are not made of money and look for the cheap deals when we can.

If the problem is with the mounts.... why don't you just replace the mounts?

I cant just replace the mount b/c the body was made for an auto so the original mounts dont bolt up. I had a custom bracket made but its not the best, and ever since the swap something rattles. I would be swapping the s4 motor into an s5 b/c the motor was rebuilt with a large sp, and it has s5 internals, so if you do not have anything beneficial to say i would appreciate if you would keep to yourself. Thank you.

Hmmm, 2 ft/lbs better peak torque, and a peak of 14 HP more is how much better a V8 is than a 4 cyl???

Try again...
