tonight, tuned under boost in low gears.

I hooked the wastegate back up and connected the bov.

First, I blew the intercooler off the TB.
After I fixed that, I blew the rear tires off the rear! Actually, the rear lug nuts werent all the way tight and the passenger side started shaking.

I am starting to get a feel for how fast the car is. It feels like a totally different car all around.

Wow, just read through your thread.
Our cars have many similarities, any luck w/ that boost creep issue?

And yeah, AC is for sissies, in phx whenever its hot enough to use it, you can't because your car will overheat :P

I moved to norcal, and am gutting AC Same w/ power steering, gets the boot.

Will make changing sparkplugs fun and not a horrible chore (full accessories and stock)

I'm so gonna have to use that N/A throttle cable trick, great idea. My cars gonna have too quick of throttle response, haha.

And I saw your boost gauge location. Great spot, thats where I mounted my Defi. Ask Elliot about the time he was driving my car around our friends apt complex and he adjusted my steering wheel and sorta flipped the gauge from its position.
So I stuck my hand in the wheel to fix it, meanwhile he's trying to go around this little round-about circle at like 5mph, and the wheel gets locked on my arm and we almost plowed my T2 into a fountain or curb or something, it was hilarious.

I'm going to run rtek 2.0 on stock t2 harness w/ a stock n/a manifold for a while, because I'm just finishing up engine/suspension, fuel ECU and turbo are still untouched. I went through a couple turbos already but I change my F'ing mind too much and am too damned picky. I think I sorta kinda know what I want now lol

project looks awesome.

Thanks Ben, I think it's your mod'ed s4 exhasut manifold I was looking at buying to help my boost issue.

As of right now, it's still an issue. In low gears it's fine. But in 4-5th... man it gets up there. For now, I am gonna keep an eye on the boost gauge.

I am always looking for ways to clean up the engine bay. PS is definetly the first to go. The battery relocation was nice too.

I didnt really want to go standalone just yet, but my harness was really bad. I think I am gonna take the slow road to big turbo tho. Do coils, fuel inj., suspension, brakes... you know the drill.

Elliot told me about that! LOL that's hilarious. That guy is crazy! I think he uses nos intraveniously!

shoot me a link to your car if you got some pics. be nice to see the process. I like to get ideas from the guys here, especially for engine bay clean up!

I forgot to take a look at your car when we met up at Elliot's shop on Wednesday. It felt like ya'll wanted to get out of there in a hurry so I was attempting to oblige. Maybe bring it by on Sunday when we finally get a chance to start the FD. I would like to check it out and give it a listen in person.

Anyway....for those of you that think A/C is for sissies, you probably haven't sat in 118 degree heat, in a car that was already preheated to a toasty 200 degrees before you got in it (enough to explode a can of pop out of direct sunlight should you be stupid to leave one in a parked vehicle)...all this while wearing dress clothes and sitting in traffic. I once had a racecar I built with no firewall padding and no A/C and in the summer here my feet would get so hot in the footwell that I actually got blisters from it...

so I will take a functioning A/C everytime...or go buy another car that has it! Guess I am a sissy, or maybe I am just smart...a/c seems like a worthwhile invention to me!

i was wondering if you wanted to check it out. I'll come up on Sunday. Elliot has been cranking away on your car. It'd be great to hear it purr this weekend.

I am gonna attempt to assemble and charge my ac this weekend. F- dem haters!

I went to the junkyard last weekend and found a black door handle on this SMASHED vert. I swapped out the locks and installed it. It works great so far.

The vert sun visors are made from a much better material, so a grabbed a set of those also. The rest of the vert was unusable.

In another 7, I found a PERFECT s4 radio surround. I have heard rumors that they exist but never actually seen one. But now I come to you with proof! There are un-cracked s4 radio surround. (pics later)

I grabbed a couple Taurus e-fans. For sale if anyone wants to throw me an offer.

We are still doing some minor tuning. The start up map needs work, as does the idle. It is a little fat down low, in 1st and 2nd. And a little lean at cruising speeds in 3rd. I've gathered that you are able to adjust the start up map (and all maps) based on timing. You can choose to pull or add timing under certain conditions.

That's about all the updates for now.

Pics as promised

I finally got my wire harness wrapped. We used this stuff called Stretch and Seal from Home Depot. It bonds to it's self and can withstand up to 500*. I also added some fiberglass tubing to the area just above the turbo. A little extra something...

The Wankler sold me this brand new AutoMeter boost gauge. It needs the hose connector on the back, but that should be here by Wednesday.

I couldn't stand that glowShift crap i had before. You couldn't see it during the day.

I didnt get the AC connected yet. I had to send the hoses off to get the rubber replaced. It's cheaper to that than to buy the hoses from Mazda! Another HOT week...

The heat isn't too bad here in the desert. Still hot, but not terrible. Hope to have those AC lines back soon.

We added another muffler to the exhaust. It sounds so good. This is the quietest mod'd 7 I've ever heard!!

The muffler is also keeping the boost down. The highest I am seeing now is 9-10 psi.

Elliot said that my car was quite a bit louder than yours even with my two muffler exhaust setup. I think it has to do with the turbo setup and the fact that I am running 3.5" piping.

I was hoping my car would be quieter with the resonated midpipe and all the sound deadening I did. Hopefully the sound deadening will help out with road noise...

i'm sure it's the piping.
How was Vegas?

That sucks about your internals, but at least ya'll caught the problem now. The balancing is DEFINTELY worth the money. My enigne runs smoother than any rotary I've riden in.

wow, it's been a while since I've been on this site. My work blocked this site and a few others after our server crashed.

It's been fun driving that little car around town. Although with all the heat lately, it's kinda laggy.

The motor is running great. Now I am starting to find all the other 20-year-old parts the we didn't replace.

The diff. mounts are going to need replacing soon. I can feel the tranny and drive shaft moving a little.

My trailing coils went out on me. That was weird! The tach started jumping all over the place, but the motor was running steady. So I'll probably pick up a couple MSD blaster coils.

Upper radiator hose busted on me, so I replaced both upper and lower.

I picked up this SUPER clean S5 T2

So she'll be up for sale soon.

that's it for now.

She was running well for a while now, but I recently toasted my 20 year old coils. I've got some MSD blaster 2's on the way. I've also noticed that the turbo is slightly leaking into the intake track. I'll need to rebuild that thing soon. It's hard to belive I've spent so much money on a stock turbocharger. That think has been ported and coated, and soon rebuilt... WOW.

I've also got a friend making me some new motor mounts and a new differential mount. Hopefully, I can add methanol to the intake in the next month. After that, she should be solid and ready for a track run.

Here are a few pics after a wax. (I know, the paint needs a buff, but it aint too bad)

I've been contemplating running methanol, and NO intercooler... what do ya think?
The stock intercooler will be counter-productive to methanol, and putting in my V-mount is gonna take a lot of work... I think the chemical intercooler may be enough.

Just got 2 MSD blaster coils.
I am gonna try to install them tonight.
I took off the old trailing coil and cleaned it out, just so the car would run. It made a huge difference just cleaning the 20 year old coils, cant wait to see what NEW coils do!

I should be able to charge the AC tonight as well.

On a side note, I noticed your faded ash tray cover. Take it out, scrub it with an old toothbrush and soap and water, and rinse it well. Go to WallyMart and pick up a can of Krylon Semi-flat Black and spray it on. It looks fantastic and it doesn't attack or etch the plastic. I did all of my interior plastics with it (as I have done with interiors for years) and it looks like new. I can take pics of mine if you want.
