Problem with power steering

I just bought my car a couple days ago and I was shocked at how hard it is to turn the wheel on the car opposed to any other cars I've driven. The car has power steering but I'm pretty sure something is wrong with it because I've read that alot of people think the steering on the FC is overly sensetive. From what I can tell the p/s is not making any noise and the belt is driving it but it feels like I'm getting no steering assist so just curious if this is how all FC's steering actually is or is somethign wrong with my p/s?

something is wrong with your powersteering. Maybe its not even working! lol.... Mine is on and off all the time. I'm pretty sure the computer is screwed.

search on this topic. Alot of answers, your power steering is not working. When mine works its so easy to turn the wheel even with 235 tires.

Well I'm not even sure if anything is wrong with it or not yet. Suggestions anyone its 87 Turbo II...... The wheel is very hard to turn I find it much harder to turn at low speeds. In reading in other post I believe people were claiming they had problems turning the wheel at fast speeds but my issue is the opposite.

If the car has power steering (on the 87 and 88 Turbos, power steering was not standard and a option) I would suspect that the power steering is disconnected (either the power steering computer or the pump).

If it has an 88 or later power steering computer, it will not have the beep indicating and failure in the system.

If it turns out to be the power steering computer, I do have a limited number of rebuilt speed sensing power steering computers on my webstore.

Well its not making any beeping. Why would my car have an 88 p/s computer? Also if you could expand on how I can check the computer or the p/s pump itself I'd appreciate it.

If the original power steering computer failed, the dealer under warrenty would have put the newer model in.

Can you confirm you have a power steering pump???

Well the next thing would be to down load a FSM and go to the power steering computer, and confirm that you have power and ground at it.

If you do, then the final step would be to follow the FSM instructions for trouibleshooting the system

Mine was the same way, harder to turn than my friends n/a with power steering, then i removed the ps pump on mine and we did it on my friends and mine still seems harder to turn, even with my larger diameter stock steering wheel and skinnier, worn, lower performance tires, so now I figure its either the rack itself or a suspenion issue, which i know the suspension is pretty shot. But I have another steering rack to swap in too. Anyway if I were you I'd check ball joints, tie rod ends, and strut top bearings.
