power steering problem
many times when i have come flying around a corner and have the *** end of my car fling around with me (that way i like to drive) when i comes time to counter steer a little to keep the car going straight down the road my steering seems to freeze up on me. like as hard to turn the wheel as a manual rack when you are not moving. this distresses me. especially when i'm really putting my foot into it. so is that something wrong with my power steering? the fluid is full. and i'm pretty sure the belts are all good i checked them like a month ago when i go the car. anybody else have this happen to them?

You are not alone. I have the same symptomes.
The S5's have RPM adjusting PS.
The more revs, the less assist. (bad idea IMHO)
Options are:
1) pull the pump & drain & cap the rack.
2) swap to a manual rack.
I'm thinking of screwing with the pump valving.
If it works, I'll write it up. If not, I'll just pull the pump..

so where does it sense the engine speed? like would putting a bigger pulley on it making the pump spin slower make a difference or does it have some external sensor that lets it know the engine speed?

oh, here's an idea. how i could i fake a lower tach signal to the p/s? that would work. who cars if i have too much power steering at high speed or something like that. on my '74 charger i could've flung the steering wheel with my pinky at any speed and the wheel would fly all the way around.
