Question power steering ? AGAIN

OK, before you start posting all the "SEARCH" pictures, I already searched and couldnt find what im looking for. im swapping my engine and while i have it out i want to switch from PS to Rack/pinion. i need to know if this is difficult and essentially, how to do it! this is my first time doing this so any help or even a link to a thread that tells you how to do this would be GREAT! thanks

Um, you DO have rack and pinion.

You're either gonna have to buy a manual rack, or take the PS pump off and loop the lines on the rack together.

You already have rack/pinion; it's power-assisted. The turning ratio is different on the rack itself, but most people just remove the pump and leave the "power" rack in place rather than using an original manual rack. Here are some threads:

And yes, I found those using the search button.

So all you have to do is remove the p/s pump?

If I loop the lines together and remove most of the fluid, how hard is it to turn the wheel when moving slowly or stopped? I want to clean up my engine bay a bit while I'm replacing my engine and if I can just do away with my PS pump & lines and leave the PS rack in there with looped lines I'd be a much happier guy.

ITS NOT THAT HARD.... I DONT HAVE POWER STEERING BUT JUST REMOVED THE BELT CUZ WHATS GONNA HAPPEN WITH THE PS LINES WHEN U TAKE THE PS OFF?? THE LINES GO TO THE RACK! SO WHAT DO I PUT THERE TO COVER THE HOLE THAT THE LINES GO INTO?? AND STEERING THE CAR IS MANUALLY ISNT THA HARDEST.. I LIKE IT BETTER THAN WIT PS.. U CAN COUNTERSTEER BETTER WHEN THE REAR END STARTS SLIDING

Did you remove any of the fluid? What makes a PS rack so hard to push around at a standstill is due to the large amount of fluid still in the rack. What I'm trying to get an idea of, is the difficulty of turning the wheel using a PS rack with much of the fluid siphoned out.

If you siphon too much of the fluid out, you'll **** up the rack. Thats the reason for looping the lines together, so the fluid can travel from side to side as you turn. Mine still has the fluid in it, and its not hard to turn, except maybe at a dead stop when you need to turn it all the way to full lock. But if you're trying to turn from a dead stop, you need to learn how to drive a manual steering car
