power steering

Also on the car I am rebuilding well the power steering pump thingy is gone. I am thinking about just taking out all the **** for power steering and saving weight. Just how much will this suck for me. Is it worth the lose of weight.

Just remove the hoses and plug the power steering rack where the hoses were connected. Leave some fluid in there. I've heard that lots of people like the feeling of the power steering rack without the power steering over the manual steering rack. They've also said that the turning ratio of the steering wheel is less from left lock to right lock than the manual rack.

If you mean swap the manual rack for the PS rack, yes you can. All 2nd gen RX-7 racks are the same, other than the PS, and non PS.

Yes, the PS rack has something like 2.7-2.9 turns from full lock to lock. The manual rack is like 3.5 turns.

If you take out the PS pump, make sure you drain the rack and plug up the lines. The ratio of the PS rack will be quicker but a little more harder to turn at parking lot speeds than a manual rack. Anyways, the space removed in the engine bay and the overall feel of the car at higher speeds is worth it. My TII is my first non power steering car and it was not actually that bad at all.

if you want to remove the P/S **and** remain
among the living, it would be a really good idea
to head over to the "the big list" and do a
search for "chris@formula3" ... his posts on this
matter are sobering.
