porting uim and tb?
Hi guys, the my fc is about to be down for a month or so while i replace the drivetrain with all t2 components, while its down i was going to go ahead and send my injectors off to be flowed and cleaned as i have starting issues and i believe its due to leaky injectors.
Anyways while the uim is off for the injectors i was thinking about what else i could take advantage of that time to do, i was going to go ahead and replace the pulsation dampener and i was thinking what else can i do?
on my last project i ported out my intake manifold and throttle body with a dremel tool so i was considering doing that as well... i searched and didnt find anything on porting the stock uim or tb but i did find info on the throttle body mod which i may be doing as well... anything else you guys would recommend doing for performance or peace of mind while i have the uim manifold of, the car in the air the drivetrain gutted?

remove your fuel pump from the tank and replace the pump and screen, use a 93 FD pump or a Walboro 255, or your favorite replacement Fuel pump, blow out your fuel lines and replace the front filter as well then check your carbon canister lines are open and venting the gas tank ,,for starters, regarding the injectors, the stock T11 s use 550s top and bottom what injectors do you have, also, your turbo injector rails should be cleaned as well , starting issues usually are low compression, bad plugs, bad wires, plugged pump screens,plugged cats and damaged computers (battery installed incorrectly,or a reverse battery boost ),and some times, a unscrewed pulsation damper screw (re install and silicone in place replace cover done deal )

OP:
I'm assuming that you have an NA, since you stated you are putting in a TII drive line? Porting the TB most certainly has been done, along with the UIM, though I've heard mixed results on it. Hopefully someone else can chime in with a little more info.

Servicing the injectors and replacing the PD sound good to me. But you may find the car still has hot starting problems even after the injectors come back. I post this all over the place, but I'll say it again: the stock start map is excessively rich on all FCs, so it's always possible to have everything in working order, but still have occasional hot-start problems. Reduce the amount injected under hot conditions and the engine starts every time.
As far as manifold porting, the only time I've read anything about this was Icemark talking about having his manifold extrude honed to better suit a streetported engine. It's not really something you can do with a dremel, since you'd only be able to reach the openings.

Ok thanks for all the replies. And it's was originally an NA but it got the T2 motor about a year and a half ago, now it's time to do the drivetrain...

with the manifolds you can take a die grinder or dremel and use some sandpaper rolls to try and smooth out the casting in there some. It's hard to get in the bends though.
I used 80 grit sandpaper on my S5 T2 manifolds as well as on the runners in the irons. I'm not sure how much it really helped (kind of hard to quantify) but it definitely smoothed out the factory casting some.

Didn't want to start a new thread for this so i thought I'd just bump this thread. I did some searching about the pulsation dampener and had no idea it cost $300. I don't really have any reason to believe i need a new one for sure i was just going to replace it as a precautionary measure, but for $300 I prefer to know for a fact that I need a new one. Any ways to test it?
