Question oil pressure

Is it common for the oil pressure gage to go bad?
My oil pressure gauge reads 0psi. I have driving it this for some time, so I do believe there is oil pressure.

I went to the junkyard and got another oil pressure gage and still it only reads 0psi.

thanks

It's the sending unit that gives the gauge a reading. Both the gauge and the sending unit are common failures...

Yeah, Oil Pressure and Temp are the two most important gauge for Rotary Engines...and then there's fuel, because, well, they're PIGS!

Should've searched first, this problem has been covered lots of times. The most common cause is a dirty, loose or disconnected wire at the sender. Fixing that is a lot easier than swapping the gauge out.

The gauges and the sending units are common failures...I noticed a few weeks back that the wire for my sending unit was filllllllllllllthy!!!! Cleaned it off, just in case, but I wasn't having a problem. I've had both gauge and sending unit go out on me before, though. However...it's usually the sending unit that's the problem. Replace that first. If you still have an issue, replace the gauge.

To check the wire... um... check the wire. Look at it. IS it actually connected? If not, well, connect it. If it is connected, dis connect it. Get some brake parts cleaner (found at advance auto, etc) and spray the pressure sendor lightly, wipe the contact away. Do the same with the wire. Is it in good shape? Still have insulation on it? If so, connect the wire back. Make sure its nice and snug.

Run the car again. If it's still reading 0, test the pressure sensor according to the FSM. I dont' have a copy on my computer, but I'm willing to bet a 15 or 20 dollar multimeter and about 10 minutes time would tell you if the sender unit is OK. If the sender unit specs out according to the factory service manual, then you've got a problem from the wire to the gauge. If you've already replaced the gauge, its more than likely a break in the wire somewhere.

Don't worry about that just yet. Do the above... visually check and clean the wire, reconnect make sure its snug. If that doesnt fix the problem, don't go spending more money yet, DIAGNOSE the problem before you just go and change parts. Its ALOT cheaper
