no spark while cranking
no spark while cranking
need help, my 10th ae has no spark while cranking. i thought it was the switch, so i left the key on the "on" position and moved the cas manualy and there is alot of spark. so i decided to run a direct switch to the starter and once again no spark while the starter is cranking. it works graeat while i move it manualy but no spark with the starter. I removed the cover of the cas to make sure its rotating with the motor and it is. any ideas? any thing will help. harness?,relay?ground?
Shouldn't touch this one with a ten foot pole, but:
Just for grins, remove at least one sparkplug from each rotor. Put one sparkplug on the fender with it's sparkplug wire on it. Lay the plug against a strut tower stud.
Now spin the enigne and tell us you saw no spark at the plug. Maybe get a helper to turn the key and you hold the sparkplug tightly agains the strut tower stud and see what you can see.

dont know if your just trying to help or being sarcastic. i have help to turn the motor over. i disconected the leading # 1 plug and i hold it close to the coil and i can not see any spark, but when i move the cas manualy i see the spark. and even somed times when i crank it with the starter it will throw about 2 or 3 spark and then nothing. any actual explanation of what you are recomending will help. i have built several motors and know alot about rx7s just not an electromechanic
IF the two sparkplugs are removed, then there won't be any load on the starter. At least not as much of a load as if all the plugs were in. Less load, and maybe, maybe the spark will be more consistent and you'll see it spark each and every time.
Sort of like looking for a clue as to why spark would be random instead of constant.
I really, really hate mentioning grounds. It's such a over used reason for *something* to not be running right on this forum. BUT, just in case, the ECU has it's grounds on top of the enigne under the throttle body,.
IF the ECU grounds were marginal/not connected up, then I could see why you'd have spark at random.
I'd pull the ECU plugs off and with the key to OFF, and the meters negative lead on a good known ground point, like the battery negative cable, see if the gnd wires at the ECU are below one ohm. One ohn or less. Point five or less is better.
Itls the kind of post that shouldn't be touched with a ten foot pole beause a person almost has to be there to fix it imho. All this guessing like I wrote above probably won't do much good.
I'm reporting J-Rat to the moderators for *picking on little ole me*. By the way Mr Rat, have you noticed how the price of corn futures has doubled over the last year and how the price of the tacos in Mexico have gone sky high and their just a starving because of ETHONAL. (some humor for the Rat).
