help with ecu ?

so i bought a 88 vert, and guy said it would run and then die. like it was loosing spark. so today i installed everything back that was taken apart, checked compression to make sure it wasnt blown, and checked spark. i shot some starting fluid in to see if it would run and it will on the fluid however i'm having problems with certain ecm outputs specifically injector pulse and fuel pump activation. do these ecm often partially fail? is there any testing procedures for the ecm? thanks for the help, AND YES I SEARCHED!

Sounds like the fuel pump isnt turning on. AFM will cause this. Try jumping the test connector yet?

okay so i started digging into the ecm area and found rust under the carpet. pulled the ecm out and removed the cover and found some corrosion on the board. pretty sure this is the first place i should start but my next question is ..................... do i have to use a 88 ecm? i have a 87 that i could throw in there to test today, but i don't want to find an 88 and that not be the problem.

i had exactly the same thing with mine

what you will find is when it was last running it fired the board

i had about 1 inch of water in my ecu

aslong as the numbers match then its a straight sway ( N374 etc.. ) - if its got ABS - check that aswell - i ended up replacing that aswell
