no spark!!!!!!

ok i have a spark plug tester and i put it on my bottom plugs and the bottom right doesnt spark. i put it on the bottom left and it sparks but blinks every once in while. so that would mean that the coil is messed up right?? also probably going to the junkyard tommorrow can i use any coil from any 2nd gen or does it have to be 86-88???? do you guys think that the spark plug tester is accurate enough???

I don't trust any new fangled thing. Take your TRAIL PLUG WIRES OFF(upper wires). Start the car. Does the car run normal?????? Any rx will run as normal as can be with just the lead (lower) plugs operating. If the plugs or the coil were really bad, then the car won't start or will shake and roll and wobble etc.

The rpm gauge works off the trail coil, so thats why you did not see anything. Now try this. Put the top plug wires back on (trail) and pull the bottom wires off. Does the car start? And run more or less without shaking and rolling. I'll stick around for another thirty or so minutes.

Yeah, probably flooded now. Oh well. Maybe it is the coil. If it turns out to not be the lead coil and you buy another one, I might be able to buy it from you if you don't spend too much on it. I have a project that could use another lead coil. There is a THING about the lead coil where if you only have one wire hooked up it will not fire due to its using the other wire to complete the circuit, therefore not spark with only one wire hooked up. Also the coil assy itself needs to be bolted down making a good ground on its chassis. That does not seem to be your problem, just threw that out there is case you get the new coil and just lay it on the fender. I guarantee it won't spark like that, without it being bolted down. By the way, something I missed on this problem. Is it that the car was stumbling and thats what made you start to see if the plugs were working? I'm trying to say that if the trails were working properly, the car will run just on them, just a bit more sluggish than if the leads alone were working. Just a thought.

86 to 92 are the same. Here is my source for that http://www.mazdatrix.com/ign-1.htm . I was serious about buying it from you if you find out you don't need it. Good luck.
