no spark

ok guys im still working on this 1987 rx-7, its n/a the engine has good compression, ive got fuel now (didnt before due to a bad ground) now we ahve no spark, it was like when we got fuel we lost spark, heres what im going to do and you guys tell me where i shuold go if this doesnt work...

-put a new body ground on the car(from battery to car body)
-one of the (im assuming) ground boxes (box with one wire running out of it) broke off (the wire seperated) so im going to get one off another rx and replace it
-sand down surface wehre coils meet body(better ground)

after all this what else could be causing a lack of spark? this is driving me nuts, i mean i really lvoe the rx-7's, but working on these things is nuts, fun, but nuts, getting this thing sideways better be worth all this...

main relay might be blown or disconnected, coils are dead(not likely tho), i assume you have new wires and plugs so that should not be a prob.

the only sensor we are missing is the one at the bottom of the radiator, its a coolant temp sensor im guessing, but the funny thing is is about 10 seconds after turning the ignition on the buzzer goes off and the add coolant light comes on... COULD THAT BE THE PROBLEM???

and you tested the main relay to make sure it was not blown? you also tested the coils to see if THEY were getting power and not malfunctioning and grounded properly? That's all I have....you have to work your way back until you find the problem........spark plugs then wires, then coils, then the main relay then the wiring........if you cannot find it there then I don't know what might be wrong........ECU malfunction? maybe one of the solder points that deal with ignition is loose and/or off.......that is all I got bro.....you haven't said what you have done to TEST the ignition system so I can't come up with anything else...... you say you have all sensors so I assume ou have also checked every fuse in the engine bay and the kick panel(i'm not sure if the kick panel even has relevant fuses).......so once and for all....WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO TEST THE IGNITION SYSTEM?

Our cars do not need any extra grounds. Period. Check and fix the OEM grounds. The important ones as far as performance are the rear rotor housing ground and the starter area main ground. You can also check the "gang" ground under the trailing coil pack area. The main chassis ground is under a bunch of tape and plastic standoffs, bolted to the left strut tower. That's a good one to check, also.

The coil/ igniter assemblies are grounded through their cases. Make sure the hardware is in clean metal-to-metal contact with the chassis (via the threads, or, you may clean an area down to bare metal directly below the attach hardware locations).
Extra grounds can and will result in performance related issues. If a new ground seems to help, your OEM ground is shot. Fix it. Period.

How are you verifying no spark? When she floods, she acts as if there is no spark. Pull the plugs. Are they wet?

The "ground box", as you call it, is a capacitor (noise filter). A shorted cap will result in a fuse blowing. An open cap will probably not be noticeable in the ignition system, unless a spark plug wire is laying directly on top of the harness through which the timing signals run...

I'm assuming that the easy stuff noted above has already been checked by you. If the main relay is dead, not only will you have no spark, but you'll have no fuel either...

If you really want to get down and dirty you can check the CAS signals' inputs to the ECU, and the ECU's output timing signals to the igniters. Let us know and we'll give you wire colors and ECU pin locations
