New S5 MOP?

Hello all, I have a 1991 fc3c, which as you probably know has a rather expensive metering oil pump (MOP). Well mine is sadly dead (according to the dealership) and I'm not willing to pay anything close to what they want to replace it (let's just say you could nearly buy a new car for what they want).

Now before the premix fans start telling me to remove the MOP and just premix, know that I have read all the pertinent threads, and it's not really an option for me since my MOP is already sending bad signals to my ECU, so I need a new one to get it out of limp mode.

I am actually running premix right now, but the limp mode is driving me crazy. Where can I buy an AFFORDABLE electronic (s5) MOP? Or would you recommend I mod my ECU (with something like this), and then just run without an MOP or get a mechanical one?

What is my best option here? I really can't afford a > 500 USD fix right now. But if you tell me it's worth it to drive her in limp mode and save up, I'll do that too. Thanks for any advice.

You can find a used one on here for about $50. I have a new one with only 3,000 miles on it (technically not new I suppose) . I would part with it for about $180 shipped. I think that's about $1,200 cheaper than what you pay at the dealer. I have a receipt as well to prove how new it is. I'm selling it because I am switching to a stand alone and no longer need it.

Thanks,
Brian

I would suggest trying the Rtek. if ya don't mind pre-mixing.

when the MOP goes bad it can actually mess up the ECU(trust me on this one) and even if ya get a new(er) MOP the problem still might exist. since the Rtek eliminates MOP detection at the ecu ya might wanna try that first. especially since the price isn't bad.

good luck with the fix

I'm curious about the MOP taking the ECU with it. How would I know whether I needed to replace the ECU? And is it hard to do?

In the mean time I'm trolling around the classifieds forum, looking for someone to sell me an S5 MOP. I think that's the easiest solution for now, given that I want to have a working MOP (not too trusting of premix yet, right now I look at it as insurance so I can run my vert without worrying about destroying her).

Ok I had this problem not to long ago actually. You can find one on any forum CHEAP and it is worth it. Until you fix keep revs low and when it throws the engine light cycle the key real quick to get out of limp mode. Dont drive on in it like this to long unless you are premixing(like I was) But it worth 50 dollars to find an electric one. (And yes the dealer rapes you on this part)
