Fried the MOP AND the ECU!! (Icemark.. look?)

Well, my ECU is definately fried....

What happened- while filling up my rad, the MOP got sprayed with water- and it shorted out. I thought the ECU fried somehow because water got into the intake.. and I was confised, since no electrical things got sprayed- only the bottom of the engine.. but THAT'S where the MOP is!!

It fried the ECU... and I wanted to check the MOP JUST to make sure that I wouldn't fry the new ECU as soon as I plugged it in?
Guess what- the MOP is cooked
I followed the FSM check and all was OK (with the exeption of no 4v from the ECU, since it's fried)

When I got to the part about checking the stepper motor resistance- I got NO resistance!! There is supposed to be 19-23k ohms between the center pins on the connector and the outer ones.. I have 0!

Well- I have been told before that the MOP can take out the ECU- the circuit isn't well protected, and I guess it's true!
Man.. now I guess it's time to go premix. MOP are bloody expensive. Anyone have an S5 MOP to sell? Damn.

The FSM, and all the manuals call it a Metering Oil Pump... or MOP... even though it logically should be OMP.

Someone on here was working on a way to disable the MOP without going into limp mode on S5s. You may want to do a search on that.

From the tests I just did I'm assuming all you have to do are install 4 20K resistors in the stepper motor connector (jumping it) and 3 1k reistors in the position sensor connector.

Anyone know if you need all of them?

Thanks
Dan

The ecu only looks for the position sensor according to that other thread I mentioned (wish I had bookmarked it). So you would only need the ones on the position sensor.

It should have only fried a couple of resistors and transistor when it went, but I haven't torn apart too many S5 ECUs

I'm guessing just the one transistor that blew... I showed a pic of it in a thread yesterday. The resistors are fine.

How do you check transistors??

Unfortunately, I've already got another ECU on the way.. I supposed I could have just fixed this one.
I'll probably fix it anyways and try to sell it or something.

No recent, good ones. I'll have a whole bunch in a few weeks of all the thousands of dollars and hours of work I've done....

Anyone have any info on the resistors?

The standard way to run premixon an S5 is to leave the OMP connected, which is a stupid solution... but obviously that won't work with me, since it'll fry the ECU as soon as I plug it in.

Unplug the pump and put those resistors in the plug for the position sensor. Of course you'd need to run premix after you do this, but that's not necesarily a bad thing from what I understand.

That was probably me, and i had very very limited success. I could only manage to disable it on a mechanical level, and left th eelectronics alone, so the ecu stilll thinks its working, even though its currently mounted on my fender...

The electronics side is complicated. The Position sensor has to exactly correspond with the motor, or else youll get an error code. If its off more than a few thousandths of an inch, you will get an error code, and limp home mode.

The ECU will toss a code on the stepper motor as well. Hey bambam, try checking the resistance of the lower middle pin, to the top outer pins, for some reason that's the only way i could find resistance on my OMP, and I'm not sure if that's how it should be, or if someone swapped pins on me, and the FSM isn't very good with their labeling

So.. nobody has figured how to ditch the OMP on an S5??
I guess I'll have to be the first.

a lot of us are working on it, the only problem is trying to fool the OMP into thinking the motor's still there.
