New, and may need help...
I have a 1987 turbo II, just bought...the facts about it are unknown, because the previous owner knows nothing and I guess the owner before him did some work to it. It has intrax springs that i can see, NKG plugs, switch for fuel pump. And a sticker that says "speed tek" is this a site for performance on the rotary? Well its black with grey interior, all options including power sunroof, it is fast as hell, goes sideways in 1,2,3 and sqwaks in 4th. I dont think it was supposed to that stock to be honest with you. I did some research on these cars about a year ago and came across an expensive wide-body kit which is very rare and very hard to find again because I cannot find it, if anyone knows where i can find it I would be extremely happy, I know what I need to know right now about the rotary but how might I go about modding this car? I understand the triangle things and the eccentric shaft and all that weird garbage, but how do i mod it??? Also is there a way or kit for a front mount intercooler? because I am buying a 29x18x2.5 intercooler and want to make her fit. I could do it all custom with a welder and some mandrel bend...but wanting to know what else is out there. I look forward to reading the forum, and posting what I can...PS is there meets that you guys do so many times a year? if so let me know.

Wide body kit:

FMIC (Front Mount InterCooler):
Many available, don't own a TII myself so I can't give you much more on that, but I know they are around. I see them being talked about on these forums a bit.
Modding is fun. Weight reduction will be a good, free way to start. Every 100 lbs lost is .1 sec off the 1/4 mile time
Get rid of A/C and P/S to help reduce the load off the engine. Upgrading exhaust, little pricey, but it will drastically help the engine flow better. Cold air intake will be another improvement. Upgrade ECU, upgrade Turbo, etc. etc.
Welcome to the RX community.

Sounds like you found a very nice car. I would try to contact the owner you suspect did the mods (getting name from DMV or whatever if you don't have already) to find out what exactly has been done to the car. He was obviously an enthusiast if he modded it and would probably be happy to answer your questions once he knows how into the car you are. If the previous owner wasn't an enthusiast he might have put long life tires on it (treadwear 160 is sticky, 300+ is getting too hard.) Still sonds fast. Don't know how much you know about TII so I will be give long answer. Computer, fuel pump/pump wiring and turbo wastegate are considered weak points of the '87 TII (in that order) and great care must be taken when raising boost above stock. Computer only has fuel maps for up to like 8lbs boost (stock is 5-6lbs I think) and when boost sensor reads more than that it CUTS fuel to the rear rotor. If this happens w/ any frequency or duration you run lean and detonate cracking your apex seals. Fuel cut defencer (FCD) plugs into boost sensor and holds its signal under 8lbs thus eliminating fuel cut, but still no fuel is provided for any boost over what FCD says so you have to find another way to provide that fuel. Next, the stock fuel pump incorporates a relay and resistor for lower fuel pressure off boost, has small guage wire and pump has limited flow capabilities. People run a new fused heavy guage wire to a new relay whose coil is operated by the old power wire and so opens the contact for the new wire which eliminates the resistor and decreases the voltage drop. Higher flow pump can be used to address over stock flow and if high enough flowing (like Walbro 255? gph) richens mixture enough overall that fuel is provided for 7-10lbs boost even w/ FCD lying to ECU about boost levels. Last on my list is that the overly small factory wastegate allows boost to increase unchecked if the exhaust and intake are upgraded to more free flowing than stock. Only fix is to remove turbo and replace w/ '89+ TII one that has dual wastegate passages or port the WG passage on the old turbo so it can waste more exhaust gasses when opened. You should get a quality (Greddy, Apex'i, Defi-not Autometer) boost guage so that you know what boost you have now and in future w/ mods. Good luck and have fun.

Oh yeah, I think the Feed wide body looks much better than Mariah as it just widens fenders and doesn't change looks as much. Expensive and hard to find though. Tire width in front is the real limiting factor (255mm back, 225mm front fit stock fender w/ right offset rims) and Mariah makes fiberglass wide front fenders that bolt on, look nice and allow 245mm up front w/ correct offset rims. That should be enough width for plenty of traction w/ a sticky tire. I think those Intrax springs are pretty stiff (and not considered best quality), may be overpowering stock struts dampening. Good suspension will help traction too.

TuRbOfAsT87II,
Hey welcome the forum. Yep rx7s tend to attract intellegent buyers, those who don't just buy what's mass market.
BLUE TII did an great job of a quicky intro and overview. I'd also like to mention there is a TON of other bodykits from Japan and locally. You also have tons of performance options including a 3 rotor engine upgrade.
Take a look around all the rx7 sites to get an idea of what direction you'd like to take. I myself have decided to work on both a Turbo II and I'm still looking for a 89-92 mica blue converitble project car.
There's probably an rx7 club in your area and proably a regional email list in addition to the national one. You might want to go to their next meet and one of the quarterly events as well.
A few sites for ya:

See the kit...um....ok starting at top, under the "speedoptions.com" one there is two right next to each other, but directly beneath that, the dark blue one...which one is that??? i would love that front bumper, I also love how he has the variable controller thing -a-ma-bob for the headlights (cant exactly remember the technical name at this point in time). If you or anyone else knows please inform me!!! :P
