All in all it cost under $1000 for the entire conversion. As far as power? Hopefully 280 at the wheels with a clutch that will hold it. We'll see once I get back to Michigan.

I've been collecting parts for my project for a while and every once in a while I'll take the turbo off the shelf put a couple of drops of MMO in it, and spin it with my air hose. Good times.

You can't flip someone **** for not searching and then flip someone else **** for bringing back the thread that they found when they searched. Besides, it's good info and I had to dig through 20 someodd posts to find it, so it was worth it to get it TTT and on my subscription list.
If I can save 1 n00b from asking if anyone's ever turbo'd an NA rx7 by resurrecting good old threads, then my work is done.

That's not a good idea. The journal bearings in the stock turbo rely on an oil film to float the shaft. If you spin it with compressed air, you will damage the bearings. The oil on the bearings must be pressurized, not just present.

Gotcha - I've only done it a couple of times, once to make sure that it did spin and always only for a few seconds. I wouldn't do it for minutes at a time though.
