Question My smoke problem......

Ok here it is.....I only have had my 1987 NA RX-7 for about a month. I have had flooding problems that I know how to take care of....but....every time I start my car it does a couple of things...#1. Sweet smelling white smoke....Which I have read that means that it is coolant/water burning.....is this a huge problem?....how can I test if thats what it is...or is that the test? I pulled the plugs they were brown. #2. The engine idles up and down when first started up for about 2-3 minutes between 1000 - 1500RPM's...and then goes to normal....It is pretty cold right now about 25-40 degrees F and moist outside. Any info about these problems will be VERY helpfull....I can't just take this car to a Mechanic....I am military living In Italy so I AM THE MECHANIC...please help me out...thanks...Z

damn, my car does the same thing with the idle. It climbs up to 1500rpm's then sinks down to 1000 and it keeps doing it over and over. I haven't notice sweet smelling smoke though. There is some smoke in the mornings but it's also like 0 degrees out so it might be normal. It started doing the idle problem after I unflooded the engine about 4 weeks ago.

ummmm ok when you start the car it has an auto warm up that it rev the car from 1500 rpm to 2000 rpm and it should go down in like a minute or so they do it on purpose so you dont redline the car when its cold if you dont want this you could just start the car in gear and make shure your foots on the clutch... about the white smoke i have white smoke on mine to but only when i accelerate im trying to find out what this crap is also... i dont think its a major issue but still something to be on top of....

ok so I did the test and........

So I went out to my car took the rad cap off and cold started it.....waited about 20 seconds I saw about 3 small bubbles come up....and then antifreeze started gradually comming out....not spurting out just kinda gradually comming out....when I gave it throttle the fluid
got sucked back down and when I let off it started comming out again.....I put the cap back on, let the car get to normal operating temp and there was no more smoke comming from the tailpipes....and I forgot to mention before that the car has never overheated on me....well I have only had it for a month....but I average 110 mph to and from work everyday on the Autostrada here in Italy....so is my coolant seal gone or am I ok??? Please hook me up! Thanks...Z

Im sorry to say, but bubbles and sweet smelling exhaust = coolant seals...About the idle, that is normal, its the cold start thing (it warms up your engine faster). Try flushing the system (maybe its something stupid like that - worth a try). and cprx7, you need to clean your BAC valve, see here: http://www.1300cc.com/howto/how2/bac.htm
Also, I hope after you unflooded your engine you did an oil change right (when the engine floods gas can seep in with the oil so its best to change it). Also try changing plugs. Good luck to both of you!

Even if the smoke goes away after my 7 warms up and it doesnt over heat ever and it doesn't eat water/coolant.....you still think it's my water seal thats busted????? God I hope not! Z
