Muffler size question (inlet or can)

I know that by increasing the size of your muffler, decreases the noise of your exhaust. I currently have header, pre-silncer and 2.5" piping and Magnfalow Mufflers with 2.25" inlet.

I am wondering if it matters if I use a bigger inlet muffler like 3" to deaden the sound more. Or should I just get a 2.5" inlet? Which one should I consider, the size of the inlet or the size of the can? I'm really tired of hearing the chainsaw at higher RPM

smaller = less noise, giving everything equal. RB mufflers are 2" each.

Its true. Well the smaller the inlet and outlet then the less noise. Maybe the larger the actual muffler is, the less noise.

think of it as an extreme, u think if u had a muffler than had a 1 mile diameter on the end of your car, would it deaden the noise at all? no. you have to look for the can intself, such as how long it is, how much sound deadening material is in it, how many CCs it is, etc etc etc

And that is EXACTLY why I said:

"smaller = less noise, giving everything equal . RB mufflers are 2" each."

ok, just to clarify... what should I look for in a muffler if I wanted a deeper tone? remember I have a header and pre-silencer.

Larger MUFFLERS decrease the volume.

However, increasing the PIPING makes the muffler relatively SMALLER if the external dimensions stay the same.

So, having the muffler stay the same external size, making the pipe diameter larger makes the muffler less effective. You'd have to make the canister proportionally larger in order just to break even.

IMHO, the corksport muffler is only beneficial to the Turbo guys running 2.5 DP\MP. To those running Turbo guys running a 3" DP\MP, there is no point reducing the diameter to 2.5" then to 3" again.

For us the NA guys, going from 2.5" to 3" mufflers has no real benefit, other than making it louder...........

HKS dual will give you a deep sound around 3.5K rpms and it will scream (not very loud compared to the corksport) at higher rpms.
