exhaust header heat shield
hey,
Earlier i was askin about a rattling coming from under my car w/ the exhaust, and the plate which is loose is the one which sheilds the exhaust ports where the header connects to the engine (there is a sensor going into the exhaust header a bit below). Im wondering, are there any negative effects if i take it off because it IS rattling a LOT. will it effect the temp of the engine bay too much?
Thanks,
Jeff

Um... Why don't you just tighten the shield?
Yes and no. The exhaust is very hot, much hotter than a boinger motor's exhaust. That's why they have shields running the entire length of the car. Your passenger';s feet will get very hot if you remove the shields. Dunno about heating the transmission, but all that heat isn't going to do your trans fluid any good.

What about just removing the heat sheild on the manifold itself, everything back from the 02 sensor is still covered. Will this melt the silicone lines going to the 6 port actuators?

Just tighten the freakin shield and there won't be rattling. Don't remove the heat shields in any situation. Just a bad idea. It's not like the weigh much, and the exhaust is real hot, which is why the shields are there in the first place.
