mr2 turbo or rx7 fc
mr2 turbo or rx7 fc
which car is better at supporting 300hp with stock parts? i know its pretty vague, but can anyone guide me into the rite direction?
or maybe my question is wich car can i use the least money in making it 300hp?

i was trying to decide between these 2 before too..and my friend that used to have a s5 turbo II now has a mr2 turbo ..so first hand i kno...the FC is better..haha..but seriosuly...mr2's are nice..have nice motors and all...but werking on them is a bitch..and theyre tales wip out to easily. also my friend thinks the fc seemed more stable at high speeds..all things u might want to consider...and to adresss ur question more directly..i kno mr2's have potential...but u cant beat the rev happy rotary. and u ghave to love the linear horspower.
Here is my list:
1) MR2 Turbo
2) RX7 TurboII
3) MR2 NA
4) RX7 NA
I love mid rear engined cars. The handling is amazing too. The FC handles good too but for me, it was a heck of a lot cheaper to get more power and the uniqueness of owning a rotary powered car. And yes, the MR2 is a PITA to work on.

Slightly OT . . .
I was considering a MkII Mr2-T for a while. Then I realized that having a 200 hp 2800 lb MR2-T would be pointless in light of my mildly built 2400 lb ~200 hp FC NA.
As far as the original question . . . you will be happier with the FC in my opinion. And it will be much less expensive.

The MR2 Turbo is by far a superior automobile.
As much as I love the rotary, the FC just isnt' as good generally.
Here's my lil' list.
1) FD
2) MR2 Turbo
3) FC turbo
4) MR2 SC
5) FC or MR2 na
Cost is a big factor, since the MR2 is TWICE as much as the FC would be, assuming similar vehicle condition.
If you have the money go the MR2. If you have the knowledge, go FC. (Y)

all the mr2 turbos here are like in mint condition and around 14000-18000 cdn
fc turbos ive seen range from 7000-15000cdn
i have a fc turbo already...but i dont think im driving for reasons so im gona get another one to drive.
would it be cheaper to buy a 1990 gtu first. then do an engine swap?!?! make it to a turbo 2?

i think FC would be the way to go, ive watched alot of japenese videos and they seem to favor the rx7 more, for its handling and speed. Yes a mr2 is a pretty cool car and all, but i think in the long run, with a new big single turbo and some nice coilovers the fc will win over all.
Over here in my area in the auto-x classes, the MR2 whoops on the FC's most of the time. Despite them weighing in at around 2800-2900lbs??, the feel of their handling is very light and nimble. The FC feels a lot heavier through the turns even when I had my 2650lbs FC SE model and has no where near the reaction speed of the MR2.
Definitely fun cars. But for the overall package and pricing, the FC is hard to beat.

The Rx would be best for going to 300hp.
You can take a TII engine up to 300 hp without modding any internals. Just get a bigger turbo and supply the fuel.
Once you get higher up in HP you will want to get hardened stationary gears and other internal mods.

MKII MR2s are awesome cars. Motor is strong, almost bulletproof, but its a bitch working around it. The mid-engined aspect of it makes it awesome to me. Personally my next car after my n/a will either be an MKII MR2 turbo or an FD3S.
Just think about how much praise the 2JZ Supra motor gets, well Toyota also made another inline turbo motor at the time, the SW20.

Even though I haven't driven an MR2 yet, based on what I know/have read, and given enough money to buy either one (which I will have enough money for the MR2 Turbo once I get a job and I can sell my MoonkieStank) I think I'll go with the MR2 over the TII, no doubt they're both great cars though.
FYI, SW20 is the chassis code, 3SGTE is the motor.

i've driven both (including both versions as to turbo's and n/a's)...and i'm be gonna extremely biased about the car you should get IMHO. i personally think mr2's are nice, sleek, and sexy, but as for sexy and more bang for the buck, go with the 7. you have alot more room to work with plus it's rotary! just my .02 cents

There's plenty of room to work with on the 3SGTE, I consider both of them to have pretty close to the same modability, its just as easy or easier to get 300hp out of the MR2 as it is with the RX-7. They both have great handling with room to grow, very different handling characteristics though. Although the MR2 generally costs about twice as much as the TII, thats not a big concern to me. I'll definitely have to drive both of them back to back, then decide.
