In my opinion, it is not worth the trouble. The 89+ manifold has the VDI system, the 86-88 does not.
The other parts do not match up and is not worth the trouble to change out the manifolds, w/out swapping engines.

I stand corrected if you show the documentation.

I dont have any documentation, but I know for a fact that the series 5 intakes manifolds are larger, if you put the two side by side, you will see, i dont know the exact measurement though... Its a middle ground between the series 4 and the series 6, which are alot harder to install, instead of a direct bolt up.

^yeah, I am not sure on what controls the VDI system, but I do not think that it is a direct bolt up
I would like to be proven wrong though...

niner - Here is your proff. This guy got to 161HP at the rear tires after his swap. Definetly worth it.

yes definitely worth it. the airpump activates the vdi and most people take those off anyways so they end up wiring open their vdi to get more top end. even with it wired you still have more low end. this is the main hp difference between s5 and s4. apart from the HC lightweight rotors

Check out the link I posted above. It says you need to use the series 5 fuel rails and there is some additional grinding required.

VDI actuator uses vacuum - 6-port actuators use air pump pressure.
