Hey, in my 1987 Turbo II I have really low oil pressure. When my car is idling it runs like maybe at 10 and then when I drive it it goes up to about a little above 30 .... also when I'm driving it hard its starts to heat up. I checked the oil and I'm not low. O.K. what's my problem guys ?

Damn, I should have known that something would go wrong right when I try to sell it. Oh yeah if it turns out to be nothing, I want 4000 for it. just in case someone might want it.

When I had the same oil pressure trouble you are having I replaced my stock , worn out Thermal Pellet with the Atkins "upgrade" and Now my pressure is right ALL the time!

 

also the oil gauge is known to not be very accurate over time so you may want to purchase an aftermarket gauge before you really start worrying

 

Either the thermal pellet has failed, or the front cover o-ring has blown out.

Symptoms for the pellet are as you suggest; low oil pressure all the time.

Symptoms for the o-ring is generally normal pressure at idle, but low pressure at higher RPM.

 

I thought it was low to 0 at idle and it went up with revs.
Edit: to quote Mazdatrix: "A slight "squeeze-out" can give 10-20 lbs at idle, 40-55 at 3500rpm, and drop to 35lbs at 5000rpm. A large "squeeze-out" can give almost zero at idle, and maybe 35-40lbs above 2000rpm"

That's about exactly were my gauge sits at same year TII, people said that was normal, and about 30 was where it was supposed to be at under normal driving conditions.

 

Depends...Sometimes you will get basically normal pressure at idle but the pressure will not increase as the revs to because it's all squirting out....
