Logicon dissassembly

Hi,
decided to turn my attention to my heater always blowing hot air regardless of the control settings. I've removed the logicon unit with only a few cuts - id like to strangle whoever decided to put the connector at the firewall rather than behind the unit...

Anyway, ive got the board out of the front half of the unit where the controls are, but i dont see how the one comes out from the main body? any hints? I see 2 clips by the connector points but releasing these hasnt helped.

You shouldn't have to cut any wires to remove the logicon.
And just because it is blowing hot air doesn't mean it's the logicon. Could be the air mix motor, they go out frequently. Or you have a bad a/c compressor.

I meant on my hands big hands - small awkward bits behind dash... ow.

My car is a UK one without air con, and the conditions out here make the logicon unit a more likely suspect. Ill have a look at the diagrams to see if i can find this air mix motor

I have had both a logicon go out and an air mix motor. Check the trouble shooting area of the manual for the difference.

There is another motor in there too that can go out. Mode control I think.

Mine wouldn't change settings from defrost to feet etc. It turned out to be the linkage. so don't fogret to check that.

I think that you are talking about the wire that goes way back under the dash and connects to the air mix valve.

I suspect the the logicon has some bad solder joints, it could be the servo on the air mix valve though.

You pretty much have to take the dash apart to get at that plug (unfortunately.)

not true about removing the dash, remove the panel at the base of the windsheild. Its the little screw under the small panel in the center of the dash. After that you can unplug the harness through the removed panel. Tie a string to it when you pull it out, to make it easy to pull it back through when you need to.

Yeah ive done all that stuff no problem (pain though it was), but I cant see how to remove the circuit board from the main bit of logicon once its out of the car. I cant see how it comes out - or is it just the front half of the logicon with the controls on that people resolder?

Just a little patience and a philips head. You can dissasemble the whole thing relativly easily. If you are resoldering you should start with the controler board, in the front part. Then do the board in the back part. I think most of the problems are from the the front part of the controler. I could be wrong though. Check Icemarks posts, he is the most well informed on logicons
