Why did you need to weld in the bearing races? I'm assuming those roller bearings have something to with it?

the reason i welded inside on the races is because there is no way to get the bearing raced out of the hub....welding inside (esp with a tig and no rod) heats the metal up super fast...it magically allows the old crap races to just fall right out...if not they move enough to get a punch to knock them out...

Finally, someone else who knows this trick! I've been recommending this for years because it is the only easy way to get the races out. No need to dremel a groove as many of the vendors suggest. Just MIG or TIG a ring around the inside of the race, let everything cool, then bang the hub on the bench and the races pop right out. I also weld two little "ears" on the ring in case I need to use a punch. Just did this last week, actually.
