JDM engine?

What would be the best/cheapest/most reliable place to get a JDM turboII s5 engine? tranny is not important, but everything else (ecu, manifolds, throttle body) is....

I only know of a few, and was wondering what are some of the others. If you ordered a jdm engine from some company/website before, let me know which one and how good was the engine?

I think some people have ordered through Nippon. I personally haven't dealt with them, but maybe there are some people here that can give you their thoughts.

From everything I've heard, JDM engine = crap shoot.

and when you are dealing with cars and not $10 chips, it's best to go safe and rebuild anywayz.

I agree. Purchased a JDM TII S5 from JDM of MIAMI and it ran 5 minutes and blew an apex seal. It ruined the housing, rotor and other things. Spent 1400 for motor and tranny adn then another 2 k for new parts to rebuild. JDM of Miami did nothing. IMHO go with a rebuild from a reliable builder like Rotary Resserection or Atkins. Even though they are more expensive than used, you know exactly what you have. Rotaries are too sensitive to abuse if they get hot or run low on oil to trust a used engine. THERE ARE NO SHORTCUTS!

Good luck finding a good one!!!

I was researching the same thing....I found that JDM engines are good but only if you buy it from a place that you an go check it out and do compression test!!! I think I'm going to buy mine from a user on this site Japan2LA id his user name its way more expensive but I've read that he personnaly checks his engines before selling them to you...so this way you don't buy it and then 2 weeks later need a rebuild!!!! has anyone else purchased an engine from Japan2LA??? try to buy one from him if you can afford it!!!

there are failures, even with all the testing i do, i still get a bad apple every now and then...
i do plug the lower rad hose and heater hose at the back of the block, then on the upper hose i attach a coolant pressure tester just to make sure the motor hasnt been overheated, its worked so far..

I bought my JDM S5 Turbo II swap from Jarco in GA, they personally drive the RX-7, video tape the engine running, revving, boosting, VIN. They import the cars and dismantle them themselves. I checked their background before buying. I got an engine that had tons of mods and low miles. Its strong as hell, and purrs like a kitten. I am very happy with my purchase. You pay a little more from Jarco but you get what you pay for.

The most important thing to know.

There are NO good shops to by rotary engines, there are only good engines and bad ones. Test them BEFORE you buy it. I saw like 10 before in 8 different shops before I bought mine.

www.jhotimports.com 30 Day warranty on the block, and all of the motors are from running cars. I've used them for several SR20, RB20, and RB25 swaps and one TII swap. Their Motorsets include an uncut harness, motor w/ all accessories, intake, I/C and all piping, ECU, tranny, and often a driveshaft & fuel pump as well. 9 times out of 10 the motorset is stock with the exception of the intake. I've only seen one motor from them come with a stock airbox actually. Just my $0.02

I have bookmarked http://www.rotaryshack.com since it looks like a perfect solution for me. I also bookmarked this whole thread for future reference, so if anyone has anything else to suggest, please do.

Thanks all for the help.
