J-Spec engine Spec's

I got my coolant tested for Co2 and It came up positive.. blown coolant seal.. whoopie. Solution.. New engine

I'm going to have a J-spec put in and I'm told its more powerful then the U.S. Version.. but How much and so ?

I've got a 86 GXL, Stock 146 Hp. I'm Going to be putting a I think 88-90 13B Into the car.. I believe Stock U.S. specs was 160 hp. But what are the J-spec Specs ?

All J-spec Mazda rotary engine blocks are turbo'd.
Are you planning on converting to turbo?

Ted is right, and if your answer is yes, forget it. too much trouble and head aches. jsut save up $2500 and have it rebuilt and Street ported, and start fresh.

If you're going J-spec.. all of them were turbocharged and putting about 200-220hp at the crank. Goodluck.. listen to Anderson, save the money, start of fresh, and port the motor.

How to make a N/A fast.. Turbocharge IT!! Otherwise, full exhaust, intake, and carb the engine with 48mm Webers!!

Exclamation J-Spec Engines

Not all of the J-Spec Engines were turbo! I have an 86' GXL as well and my engine went so I ran over to Seattle, WA and was put on a waiting list to get an engine frowm Japan. The engine came and it is definetly not turbo. So I dont know where you get your info but there obviously were some N/A in Japan...wierd to say I know...!

I dont know my specs either and I am still searching! Anyone wiht info please help!

^ lol. You were had. Your motor is not jspec. ALL JDM FC3S MOTORS ARE TURBO! No if ands or butts. So I dont know where you get your information from, but its wrong.

For starter of this thread. Send your motor to somone like Kevin Landers and have it rebuilt. Be far less headaches and $ then swaping.

DEFINE "FAST".

Tell us what your goals are with your car - not some vague adjective which we can spend ions answering...and still be wrong.

The NA can be made to put out 200hp to the wheels relatively easily.
This will smoke most of the Hondas around you.

If you're shooting for more than that, it gets expensive.

HOW MUCH ARE YOU WILLING TO SPEND?

You've been misinformed. The J-spec 13BT's are virtually identical to US-spec ones and make exactly the same 180hp (S4) or 200hp (S5). They were all turbo'd as mentioned.

It sounds like you're thinking of the 160hp S5 NA engine, standard in all US-spec 89-91 non-turbo models.

The only stock FC engines to have more than 200hp were the very rare 215hp Infini models, and that was purely because of the bigger exhaust. The engines were unchanged from the regular models.

Let me guess. Your engine was missing the turbo?

if he stays with the same series for his swap, he could do the swap for less than $2500. If he can rebuild himself, he could even rebuild the JSPEC for the same amount.

it's not hard to do. its a straight forward job. i had no headaches. i spent less than $2500 for my entire swap. i also did all the work myself though.
