HA! her ring cost less than my TII, but a lot more than my first car. I'd call that a happy medium, and she loves the ring anyway, so it doesn't really matter.

This is why I am selling my FC, cause I am in 11k now and selling for 7.5k. I wanna spend 8k more....and I dont see ever getting 19k for my 2nd gen.

So I am going to dump my money into a 3rd gen...I think its a better over all inverstent that I could sell and get some of my money back.

If I counted...I would cry.

I have most of my receipts in a box though, so whenever I end up selling it, the buyer will know what an amazing deal they got...

there is little difference in the modification aspect of FC vs FD, stock FDs hold their value better than most modded FDs do unlike stock FCs. you just can never expect to get much out of the money you dump into a car, you are better of putting it completely back to stock and selling the parts induvidually.

Yup. That's why it's a good idea to keep all your receipts, get it rated and have an agreed value policy as was mentioned earlier, and enjoy it for what it is. If you are seriously thinking about buying a car for resale value, buy an accord and keep it stock. My Mother-in-Law, I love her to death, but everyonce and a while she will tease me about, 'that damn thing,' 'silly rotary' whatever, and my Father-in-Law, who gets it, defends me saying pretty much, back off, it's a hobby, it's supposed to be fun, etc etc etc. I'm sorry but after 10 years with the same FC, to look at it as anything else is foolish.... just my $.02...

& yes, I put miles on the car and plan on driving her from CT to Irvine for 7S10

EDIT: Another good way to look at it is as a canvas, or a learning experience. I leaned how to weld becuase I needed some parts that were just not available, so I bought a TIG and learned how to use it. The paint was old and faded so my wife bought me an air-compressor (after I talked her out of paying to have her painted) and I learned bodywork and painting. A few panels took 2 or 3 tries but the finished product gets alot of compliments. I am NOT one to judge my own work but people have come up to me on more than one occasion to ask about the color and who painted the car. THAT feels good.

donor TII(includes upgraded suspension and electronics)= $free.99 (it was my car so I won't include the value of THOSE parts on my CURRENT project)
SHELL=$700
Tools=~$300
clutch= ~300
Higgi TB elbow=$125
FMIC+pipes=$300
thermostat elbow=$106
sideskirts= $200
rear skirt=$100
Rear Sport wing=$25
Front bumper=$100
Yellow top batt. and cables for relocation=$160
Mazdaspeed engine mounts= i wanna say <$70
RB sways and links=$120
stock radiator= $70
3" RB turbo-back=$400
Wideband (LC-1)=$180
Fuel pump and injectors= $150
TOTAL= $3406 First time I've done the math.

On the way to my house THIS WEEK:
Rear Wing and Front lip=$300
Custom secret part you will not see or hear about until the body work is done=$300
Block-off plates= $26
Total=$626

Within the next two weeks:
S5 BNR stage 1 turbo= $560
FCD=$16 DIY
E-fan install= $FREE.99

By the end of summer:
Body work and paint= $??? I'm doing it with my friend so I don't know yet but I'm trying to do it all for under $1K at his shop.
Custom FG dashboard= <$150 in material
Vented hood= $450 shipped

By NEXT year:
Completely NEW interior (boots, *****, seats,Steering wheel,pedals, remove sound deadening and re-install the carpet

RX8 seats for DD and ONE Momo racing seat for track-days

4 or 6pt. roll cage

Powder coat my rims, UIM/LIM and IC pipes

custom Griffin racing radiator

I've been working on this project for over 3 years now. Between looking on 2-3 forums, craigslist, my friends and other forum members I've gotten some really good deals on some sweet parts. I did the math for the first time today and it surprises me. Mostly because I didn't think I had spent so much $$ on the car but at the same time I feel good that I have honestly found some great deals. Because the parts have been sourced slowly and patiently it hasn't affected me much but it's amazing how everything adds up AND I'm not including GAS, Oil, Brakes, other Fluids, tickets!!!, replacement parts from thefts (yes, plural) and the occasional tire replacements.

By the time I'm done I hope to have a nice 300HP daily driven FC that NO ONE HAS EVER SEEN before (whether you like it is ANOTHER STORY) but I know you have not seen a car like mine no matter how many FCs you have seen anywhere. I have taken plenty of pics from the beginning and I will post everything in one thread once it is done. Seems like a lot of money, but on the bright side it COULD have been more.

BTW this does not include my Current DD NA which is going to Paint next week! The NA is almost done, but i don't wanna do any more math .

I added up all the stuff I could think of off the top of my head a week or so ago.. I'm sure I've got over 6k in it not including the price of the car. I haven't even done any major overhauling except for the suspension.. just been fixing a ton of little stuff. I've only owned the car for 2.5 years!

The important thing is that you keep track of it and remember that all this money is basically going into entertainment. You'll never see the money again, even if you sell the car. But what you do have is your car.

I'm up to $5000 maybe: repairs, mods and original purchase price. About $1500 more planned, then I'm done. Just doing suspension, exhaust, some fancy oil system stuff and that's pretty much it.

But now its getting painted and will be ready in about 2 weeks.

With a reliable +/- 225rwhp. Enough to beat an FD, I'm happy.
Wow, talk about ressurecting a thread! lol

Well, without the purchase price of the car, I am now around 17k$, with a reliable 271rwhp.

**** yea.

HAHAHA! I just decided to get my own. Helped BoostedFc3s bleed his brakes tonite so that mine can go into the garage tomorrow. Needs some maintenence. (Can't be bad when your honey-do list includes working on your wife's fc.) And bonus: I'm using some of the parts he's already upgraded. Certainly haven't spent as much as you guys, but feeling that car pull when the turbo spools, I can see where this is going, and I like it.

I'm at about $5300 including the $4400 i spent on the car( I picked up the car exactly one week again) Before i even picked up the car i had already ordered a wideband for it. By the time the year is over i'm sure i'll be around $7k. No stock parts realy need replacing, so it'll be all upgrades. its worth it!
$4400 88 turbo 2 W/ newly rebuilt street ported motor
$100 s5 bumpers(not installing until i can afford paint)
$250 Act street performance clutch kit.
$350 Innovate Lm-1 wideband.
$120 Cheap cd player(car had no radio when i bought it)
$50 Forge dual piston BOV

ZumspdRX-7 should post his parts list, its in his fs thread if you can find it(its nuts) If i remember correctly he has over $40k in receipts for this FD. What i think is remarkable is that Rick is only my age(21ish). I'm not even sure if i've earned $40k ever, let alone to spend on my car. haha.

$6500 – 1989 TII with mods
$240 – 2 Kumho Ecsta MX 225/45 R17 tires
$800 – 4 BBS Stern wheels, 17x8 +42mm and 17x9 +42mm, from Japan
$50 – Driver side lower control arm and sway bar end link
$610 – Labor to install above mentioned control arm, labor to install a rack and pinion, cost of used rack and pinion, cost of new clutch slave cylinder and installation of clutch slave
$56 – Flex-a-lite thermostatic electric fan controller
$51 – 4 pairs of speed bleeders
$140 – New Starter
$33 – Pair of Sylvania Silverstar H6054ST

Getting sub-par mileage, being fearful of needing a rebuild, and the moments you have with your car... priceless.
