how do I stop shooting fire?

I know the answer to my own question, turn the S-AFC down and take out the 680cc secondarys, but really, It does shot fire way too much. I think my biggest problem is having such a shitty cat back. its the stock cat back with 190k on it, most the times the flames dont even come out the tips, they come out the side.

there really is not point to my post, just thought I'd share my insights

Get a good big cat on your car. *MEOOOOOW*

Get an Apexi N1 and get the silencer that bolts on to it.

Then you should be set.

Of course you could restore all the ACV-afterburn-deceleration stuff back to stock.. NAH

The point is, usually what I see is a post of people wanting to know HOW to shoot flames. Also, having been on this board for about 2 years this is the FIRST time I have seen a request to NOT shoot flames, usually it's the other way around.

It's just an observation - go nitpick somewhere else if a cat's pissin' in your car.

^^^ Thanks for that ever-clever post.
Exhaust valves would help to kill some flames
but seriously, you'd have to put on a cat, and then the ACV and air pump.
Why are you so anxious to get rid of them? They should only be there when you let off the throttle.

You don't have an air pump on? No wonder you are shooting flames. DOH!

Get the air pump back on, big single cat, and keep them flames and dirty pollution you are creating away.

My setup: cats removed with a RB downpipe and midpipe, cat back-still stock, egr, avc, airpump, sol. rack, all removed. TID out of 3" I.D. pvc, open air bov of a 1g eclipse. S-Afc with 680cc secondarys & streetporting. the thing is, in the effort to squeze every last drop of power out of my engine, I've set myself up, bacily to shoot fire. The problem is, its burning my bumper!

My post was ment to stand out in the crowd, normaly all you see is, how DO i shot flames, FEDREX picked up on my suddle opservaton (sp).

Without smog equipment such as a cat or airpump, shooting flames in a TII is inevitable

there is not much you can do to stop the flames with your setup. Try fabricating some sheet metal heat shields to fit between the exhaust and your bumper

I am going to see if I can modify my N1's so that they don't stick up so much. Hopefully it will save me from getting a black bumper, that's the only downside to having a white FC.

Oh yeah, that sucks for me, too.

I have *no* exhaust system. It fell victem to too many salted Chicago roads.

So sometimes, when it smokes, the smoke just pours out from all under the car. After a long time of this happening, and knowing it's just an engine flood, I still worry about the car being on fire since I really can't see anything but a cloud of smoke flowing from my under engine compartment, doors, and some from my exhaust tips.

When the flames shoot out, they just--"fwa!"--right out all over hell, under the car and all that. Along the sides of the car, towards the tires. Lose a pant leg here and there. Well, you know, it just sucks.

Just an anectdote. I suppose it needs a lot more work than the cats. Downpipe, catalytic converter, etc... erf

as i said, check TPS first, it really helped me, i don`t have shooting anymore and my gas mileage improved almost 100% (of course, A LOT of gas was ending up in exhaust before ;o)
