How do I raise compression.
I have an 89. Compression is 9.7 to 1. I was thinking of mabey 10 to 1 at the most. I know this creates heat and ping but its an n/a and am going to upgrade the radiator and I already have the a/c out. I can put timing back to stock as well and I always run premium. So im sure its safe.
I know that pushing in the plugs help. What about ???

its pretty hard to raise compression on a rotary, only way I've heard that doesn't cost a shitload or mess up your engine is putting spacers on your sparkplugs. It's not exactly an easy task. I've heard some people talk about coating it with something. You might want to try a search on the forums.

i think mazdaspeed7 takes off the washers or pushes them back on the spark plugs to let them go deeper in the housings...this supposedly raises compression a little...you can also do the ATF trick. this may or may not depending on the existing shape of your motor...

Due to the shape/design of rotaries, you cant do anything that will raise the compression more than a fraction of a point short of having new rotors designed and machined. Very expensive. You can cut the crush washers off the spark plugs. This raises the compression a very small amount, but it also moves the spark closer to the chamber. its an old 2-stroke power trick someone told me about, so I tried it on my car. The gains werent really noticable, but the car did have a little more low end, and a little better idle. I have a spare rotor housing I have checked clearances on, and the spark plug is still far from the edge of the housing.

The crush washer on a spark plug is there to seal the plug to the block - take it off and you stand a good chance of losing compression because of blow by at the plug!

Thnx for all the replys people. Since oil gets squited into the engine to burn why not use thicker oil to seal tighter. Although I use 10w-30. I used thick oil once and oil pressure went skigh high. SO I changed it fast. Seems Like that would were out the omp faster due to more stress.

To raise the compression you add material to the rotor combustion chamber. Its a rig, and wouldnt recommend doing it. As for Node recommending adding spacers to the spark plugs, time to change the filter on your crack pipe...
