Hood Weights
Does anyone know the weight of the US GXL hood
compared to the weight of the US Turbo II hood
From what I hear the Turbo II hood is considerably lighter...not to mention it looks 10times better....Im lookn for one to through on my homemade TurboII project....the search isnt going to well so far....any places I could look besides for sale forum and ebay ?

Both hoods came in either aluminium or steel. The aluminium hoods are about half the weight of the steel hoods...Don't know the exact figures, but I would imagine 15-20LBs for the aluminium.

Turbo II steel to aluminum is 50# versus 30# - NA should be similar.

It may be only a 20lb difference.... but if you open both hoods you can tell the difference. The aluminum one you can lift with 1 finger! Also this weight has a very high center of gravity and it is worth it if you are trying to get every last ounce of handling out of your ride.

How can you tell for sure if your hood is steel or aluminum? I thought mine was steel (86 N/A, either base or luxury model) until I test drove another RX-7 the other day. The hood on the other RX-7 definately felt lighter, but it could have just been my overactive imagination. Could my car possibly have an aluminum hood. It's the only RX-7 I've ever seen without a sunroof.
