hi rpm lean misfire

i was talking to my local smog ref/friend and he told me that rx's have a known problem of having low pressure fuel problems and he would put his money on that it is what my problem is

on our cars what could cause a low pressure prob

fuel pump, fuel filter, kinked line, bad fpr? anything alse?

No they don't. Exactly what problems are you having?

...i get above 13.1v on the black and blue but the red one changes between 9-12v
Blue is fuel pump power, white/green is the fuel gauge sender, white/red is the low fuel warning light and black is the ground for all three. If you have 13.1V on the blue wire then that's not the problem.

Make sure your gas cap isn't sealed. If no air can get in through there, reguardless of how much the fuel pump pulls, it's going to result in near vacuum like conditions in the gas tank.

The fuel pump putting out low pressure is slim to none as being the problem of not passing emissions.

The big players are the airpump, acv and a good catalytic converter.'

The airpump: If it's got the belt on and the hose b/t the acv and airpump on then it's good to go.

The ACV should not be dumping air out the large bottom hose. If it does then you need to make sure the acv diaphrams are good and the two signals used to control the acv from the Relief and Switching solenoids are good. See the FSM for how to check.

An original catalytic converter isn't going to cut the mustard.

The 02 sensor is only a player on tests that have the car on rollers and check the emissions at low speed then a higher speed. IF they check the emissions only at idle, then the 02 is not a player. Common sense.

Timing should be set per fsm. TPS should be set per FSM i.e. appox 1volt dc output to the ECU at idle when the engine is hot. Idle set around 750-800rpm.

Fuel filter?

Is there a way you can get a fuel pressure gauge hooked in to confirm the fuel pressure drop at high RPM? There are a lot of things that can cause a misfire at high RPM, and fuel pressure is only one of them (injectors, spark plugs, coils, and AFM come to mind as others).

I had a fuel pressure regulator get stuck back in March.
I first thought it might be a clogged secondary injector, so I had double dosed it with injector cleaner.
A fuel pressure gauge exposed the problem.
Before I had a chance to replace the rail, the problem went away.
I think maybe the injector cleaner unstuck the FPR.

A stuck FPR will give rich idle & lean power.
