There you have your answer, no. The threads on the autometer sender and the stock one are different too. Although some would advise jamming it in there anyway, it's NOT something I'd do or reccomend. It is also not reccomended to use an adapter, as the sensor will then be out of the flow, and won't work properly. The best place for an aftermarket sender is in the back of the water pump housing, below the thermostat, just drill and tap for the sender.

You have to order the adapter. If you can wait till tomorrow night I will PM you the part number that Autozone uses. I just installed mine and the adapter for the autometers sensor to fit in worked perfect

Ok, does anyone know the thread size.
I got a "neck" from a friend that goes over the thermostat, and at the side, it is already threaded to accomodate an Rx-7 sensor. Dont know why though because my original "neck" on my car was not tapped?? I'm confused..could it came off a Turbo ??

I believe the stock coolant temp. sensor is 1/8" BPT with 28tpi and the Autometer ia 1/8" NPT with 27tpi.

Ya,I just got a Hose Temp sender Holder..what a Job that was, trying to Get an Adapter..I had a Fitting for the Sender but it wouldn't fit the Hose Thingie. So I bought a Tap and started making a New thread for the Insert..SNAP!..it broke in two!..so I ended up drilling it and Making New threads Again..and This Time Success!..Funny thing was it Was a Cleaner look on the whole Outfit, because Because this time the Adapter fit flush with everything..PETE: how did your Gasket Job turn out..Did you get one,or did you RTV the Thermo Housing?.(I am hoping you Splurged and got the two dollar Gasket!).

The threads of the sender depend on the year. Some of 1/8 BSPT, others are a metric straight thread, some are a metric pipe thread. Earlier engines are 1/8 BSPT, later are a mix between the two metric threads.

Really, check the FAQ for links to topics on alternative locations to install your temp sensor.
