Unhappy help the noob ha..

so i just bought a 2nd gen turbo rx7. and it has been running decent to say the least, until yesterday it just died in my front yard. it has had trouble starting and keeping a steady idle the whole time ive had it and i was getting to fix it and b4 i got to it it crapped out. it was having trouble warm starting and i was reading on here that if you pull the egi fuse on the end and turned it over a few times and put it back that it would start. and it did that a few times. then it quit working. ha so i called my uncle who is a mechanic and said that it was probly a bad fuel pressure regulator and to check the vaccum lines attached to it for gas. now i cant actually find it. ive found something that looks like it could be it but it doesnt have a vaccum line on it. so i cant figure it out. the oil smells like it has gas in it so im gunna change that with the fuel regulator. eh if anyone could help me figure out what i need to do to get this beast running again it would be apprieciated

Ummm like make sure that all of your vaccum hoses aren't broken if so replace them, ummmm rotary engines like to fluid alot and mainly taking the egi fuse out just drains it all. I don't know anything about ur oil smelling like gas. Your fuel regulator is on your top fuel rail if you can find the injectors you can find the fuel regulator i'm pretty sure it is under the upper intake manifold and if you see it under that it might be on the back side of the rail.

Thumbs up

your motor is probably flooded...

1. pull the spark plugs out
2. pull the egi fuse out
3. turn the car over (with the above removed) and hold it for about 15 secs with the throttle all the way open, and let it sit for about 5 minutes in between
4. put (ONLY) the spark plugs back in and turn it over again for 15 secs
5. plug the wires back in and egi fuse
6. try to start it up, it may take a few trys, but should eventually start soon, it will smoke for a lot for a few mins and may run like crap, but then it should be ok...

try all that and if that doesnt work reply to this thread and there could be more solutions, but try that first...

robert

make sure your AFM is level, the crappy idle could just be that your flap in the AFM is in an ackward position.. or i coult be that its NOT CONNECTED, it happened to me a few times, my clip on the AFM broke so it would slip off sometimes, which would explain why it wouldnt start NOR idle..

alright. thanx for the help i will for sure try those things. now the regulator is on the back side if i have the right thing towards the cabin...frick... where you sit ha. on the end of the injector rail and it will be sideways? i have a haines(sp) manual for it and it shows a completely different setup of what im looking at. it sits like T vs. --| so well see. another problem im having is overheating and i replaced the rad cap and that helped but my fan is a piece. i have a 4 core shane racing aluminum radiator and the fan he put on it is like a 10 dollar electric autozone fan. and it doesnt move air to say the least. now this one guy told me that a fiero/camaro fan would work but im not sure if it will clear all the pulleys and belts and i dont wanna spend 150 dollars on a fan that wont fit. any advice on that?

i actually recently got the Fiero fan which blows air like a mother.. i just have to wire it right, i tested it right outside the junkyard.. and the mother damn near burned my finger (the wire) i touched it to the battery and it got hella hot hella quick so i'ma have to figure out how to rewire it.. point being.. yes the fiero works like a mother. and is less than inch of clearance as oppose to the OEM.. i'll take pictures tommorrow.

ok so i pulled the plugs. and none of them were gasy (ha) and its not even sputtering anymore. which leads me to believe that there is a fuel problem b4 the regulator because as i understand it. the regulator is on the end of the injector rail. which means i probly have a problem b4 that. ive ordered the regulator and it should be here the 11th but if it doesnt have gas at that point then there is no point in changing it. does this make sense or am i just suck? ha

yeah im pretty sure i got them in the right order i was careful about it. the reason i think i have more of a fuel problem is because there is no gas smell at all when its turning over. and im sure if i had the wires wrong it would smell like gas like normal. but it doesnt. so yeah. ha this thing is pissing me off. but gotta get through this. yeah if you would and also take a picture of the fan cuz i found one on ebay that seems like it would work. idk if the year of fiero matters at all im sure they used similar fans

it was similar to this fan assembly i think they sold the one i was looking at.

if you just need a quick fix for it to run you can always just drill a hole the the clutch plates, and screw a screw and nut through that and tighten it down so it stiffens up.
(thats what i did when i first dropped my engine in.)
too bad its JUST a quick fix since it wears the belt down.. wore it down soo fast that i didnt notice it was missing..
which in turn caused my engine to go BOOM ! lol.. but like it said you can use it as a quick fix only. low RPMs only.

well its not dangerous of you dont go CrAzY.. just free-revving it... i did it, lol. not the greatest idea. but yea you CAN have it that way if your daily driving it. the fan'll just be engaged constantly tho.
