Help needed: OMP not working.
Hi wankelfreaks ;o)
I have recently discovered that my OMP is not working on my RX 7 turbo II cab, the car simply did not use any oil anymore ! ok, so now I am premixing (of course !) and the meaning was to get the OMP fixed, but after I have talked to other's with the same problem and allso read about it, it seems it is actually better to run synt. oil and premix, so this is what I will do ;-) my Q. is, will one have to remove/eliminate the OMP so that the computer does not "see" a problem and maybe run on limp mode ? if, how do I do that ? if not, can I simply unplug the wires to the OMP or will this make the computer "see" a problem and go on limp mode ? or should I simply just let it be as it is now ? I have got a cold startup/idle problem, could it have somthing to do with the OMP not working ? I have plughed a digital checker to the car, and it gives me a "code 8" wich I have found out has something to do with the AFM (Air Flow Meter) what does this tell you guys ? does it actually mean the AFM is not proberly function anymore or could it simply just be an airleak somewhere ? I really hope you can help me, thanks !!

In your profile it says you have an FD, but I think you have an FC if it's a '89 to '92 rx7.
I don't think I've ever read of an "ultimate" fix for the S5 OMP removals, as far as that ECU circuit is concerned. I think most guys just tie it up somewhere in the engine bay after removal, so the circuit remains intact, and no codes or "limp modes" are instigated...
Sorry I don't know as much about the S5's as I should, but this "code 8" you're getting, is it for the AFM output, the AFM intake air temp sensor, or something else? In any case, you could check the different AFM-related inputs at the ECU and compare them to the factory service manual specs, to attempt to figure out exactly what is failing. We have a nice thread going on right now that has all of the information you need to perform this:

Thanks WAYNE88 ;o)
OK, I have now installed a proberly functioning AFM from a friend to see if it was the AFM, and it was !! the car is now running so nice ;o) actually, the car must have had this problem for quite a while, I can see now, it is a whole new car, so much more "smooth" idling perfect, starting perfect, does everything right now !! so the car must have been running on "limp" mode or something, it is allso pulling much stronger now when boosting. My Q. is now, can you fix the bad AFM somehow ? maybe it just need a rinse, lube or something ? or is it most likely the electrical components not working ? my model is a 1990 Turbo II (S5) so it is electrical operated and looks much different from the earlier models, I will put in a picture of the thing. If it is a electrical faillure, how can you messure it ? and can a elekrto mechanic fix it somehow or do I simply have to get another ? if, I have to get a new/used one, where can I look for it do you think ? (it is impossible to get one here i Denmark !) I really hope you guys can help me, I am desparet to get my car running just as it does right now (but unfortunately I have to give the AFM back to my friend soon, damm).
