Hello, and a question.....
I've been lurking on these forums for a few months, but now that I actually have an RX-7 I'd like to say "Hi". I just bought my '87 TurboII on tuesday with 27,500 original miles on her and I am only the second owner. The car feels perfect and is in mint condition all the way around! Even has the original owners manual and warranty information in the glove box. So now that I have my baby, I'm sure I'll be posting plenty on here in the future, but for now I just have one question......when I'm on the freeway in fifth, right between 80-83 mph, then I step on the gas (not floored, just increasing speed a bit) I feel and hear a weird vibration that sounds like it's coming from the rear. Hard to expalin, and not always noticeable but bugs me enough to ask about it. Is this normal? Is something out of balance?

Banned. I got OWNED!!!
Welcome to the forum.
**** dude, thats a clean car. Where do you find a t2 with 27k on it? IF I find one with 127k I think Ive done well
As for the vibration, might be a u-joint, though unlikely with such low miles. More likely a tire problem, since they tend to "resonate" at a certain hwy speed for a few mph only. Especially if, as the miles suggest, this car sat undriven for a while. You might also check out your rear suspension, as they can be a bit noisy and have funny effects sometimes when theyre shot, but again your miles would suggest otherwise.
Good luck!]

hypntyz - Thanks, I'll check the tires, u-joints and suspension out just to be safe. The car does seem to lean to the drivers side in the rear, in my parking spot but I think it's the slope of the asphalt. I'm going to find a flat spot somewhere and make sure everything is level when I get a chance. I think it might just be new owner paranoia but then again I don't want to take any chances. Thanks for the compliments.
Gefunk - You noticed that huh? Yeah, I went to this guy fully expecting to talk him down using my trusty KBB knowledge, but I wound up giving him every penny he asked for ($7,900). Some may say I payed too much, but to me that car is worth it. Especially compared to the other FC's I had looked at. I was pretty much in shock when I saw the engine bay. I'll try and post a pic of it if I can get one edited down to size for this forum and figure out how to put a picture in a reply

Former Moderator. RIP Icemark.
I was thinking Tires for the vibration as well. It sounds like the car has been doing some sitting.
First things you should do is change all the fluids (including tranny, diff, coolent, brake and clutch) and filters, wash out or have the gas tank cleaned.
I personally would change the belts and perhaps the hoses if you see any deterioration around the ends.
Sounds like you got a great buy. And a great color. Here's your picture:

The car has been sitting for a while so I've been going through the list of stuff to check. Only thing I didn't already do or have planned for this weekend is having the gas tank flushed. Sounds like a good idea though and luckily I haven't replaced the fuel filter yet so I can do that at the same time. I've looked over the hoses and they look absolutely great, but the belts are a a bit noisy so I'm probably going to replace those too. Yeah, I really love the color too!

Here's a post from the rotary newsgroup about checking your tires...
You can check yerself for wobbly wheels, preferably with a dial gauge,
but the following is almost as accurate. Get the wheels off the ground
(preferably the whole car up on jackstands). Clamp a pencil in line with
a vise-grip. Using something solid, like 4x4s, a stack of Bibles,
whatever, make a stand up to the level of the rim on which you can lay
the vise-grips. Put the pencil point agianst the rim inside the lip
(which may be dinged) and gently rotate the wheel. The wheel should
touch all the way around. If it does not (and assuming the bearings are
good) you have a buggered wheel. Throw it away.
Do the same thing on the tread at about the midpoint, half way up the
wheel. If the tire is out of round or flat spotted, you need to have it
shaved, then balanced. (Do this after a run to heat the tires, they will
flat spot sitting over night.)
If a front end shop does not shave tires, they are NOT into high
performance and you need to find another shop, although it is rare that
a new high performance tire needs to be shaved. Find a GOOD shop and pay
them whatever they ask, bow and scrape, kiss their ***, whatever it
takes to get on their right side and stay there.

Congrads on your first car. I hope you like it. That's good to get a RX-7 Turbo II with 27K on it. I don't know about the noise though. I just gotten my car about a month ago now and mine leans also in the rear right. I may not have the car for long though because someone wants to trade their white '91 GTU w/ everything for mine so I'm happy that I'm finally getting what I want. I'm going to turbo it later on if I do get it.

I hope who ever you bought it from didn't let the car sit for too long. How long was it? I hope your compression doesn't go to **** on you. Did this guy start the car often while it sat? I know thats what happened to mine.
