slower, but you probably won't notice. unless your timming and ecu has be made for the higher octane it's pointless.

The only advantge of higher octane in a NA is the detergents in the gas.

Unless you advance your timing and reset the idle, then there is an advantage to using better octane than 87.

This comes up about once a month. The bottom line is that unless you're driving a turbo, buying fuel above 87 octane is like throwing your wallet in the river. Octane is solely a measure of the fuel's resistance to detonation. Higher octanes *do not* by themselves 'clean' your engine or burn cleaner or produce more hp. Fuels that claim to clean your engine have additives in them.

Detonation (or pre-ignition) is not much of an issue in non-turbo rotaries. Among other things, the characteristics of the chambers inhibit detonation.

Here's a thread that beat on the topic quite thoroughly...

I spent some time messing with my timing with different octanes, and I my car feels much stronger in the bottom end with 89 octane over 93 octane. For both, I had my timing advanced to just before the point where minor detonation would occur. I think premium is a waste of money for a n/a.
