I believe the VIN strikeout (mentioned in the thread referenced above) only applies to 1990 model year cars; most GTUs cars were '89s and have otherwise ordinary VINs.
Since many of the links were actually dead in that old thread, it might be worth noting some of the things to look for:
1. Check tire specification decal in driver's door jamb. If it was a GTUs, it came with 16" wheels from the factory.
2. It should not have any kind of sunroof. No GTUs had the factory power sunroof. Some dealers supposedly installed manual pop-up glass moonroofs at the request of owners, but these are less desirable than the solid roof.
3. It should have the aluminum hood, the 4-piston front brakes/vented rear calipers, and 4.30 LSD rear end. From the factory, it would have come with "GTUs" decals on the front fenders.
4. It should have hand-crank windows, not power. The seats should be the heavily bolstered TII type with the integrated headrests, cloth only (not leather). I believe all GTUs cars came from the factory with an AM/FM radio only; no cassette or CD, though I suppose this could be upgraded by the dealer so some probably exist today with the other audio options.
Granted, some of this equipment may have been altered over the years so the car may still be a genuine GTUs even if some of these items are missing.

Unless I get it first.. Muahahahaha. Just kidding. Im completely broke. But I was thinking of buying that same car about a month ago. But it does look and sound clean. Especially since it still has those wheels and the tails. And holy dickballs do you really have 3 10th AEs? Thats like .03 percent of all 10th AEs.
