My GTU turns out is a GTUs instead!!!
I thought I had a GTU for about 4 or 5 years now. I called mazda today and asked them to run the vin and the designation for my car is actually a "GTUs".
About 2 months after I bought I got into a slight accident and the stickers on the fenders were taken off at the body shop. They replaced them with GTU sticker(which I decided not to put on and still have in the original package...hehe) but since then always thought it was a GTU.
Hey vosko, you were right! kinda funny to find out what it is after all these years of having it and never bothering to find out cause I was convinced of what it wasnt!!!! Nice little surprise....

GTUs

Lucky bugger.

I wish I had a GTUs, I would put in a turbo II engine and a turbo II hood.

But then you could no longer say I have the best NA RX-7 you can get, since it would be turbo. Besides, wouldn't a nice GTUs be more expensive than a Turbo II? It may depend on the buyer.

hmm yea your right

Yea your right...

Oh well.

So if I had a GTUs I would have to put it in the garage and look at it a lot, while driving my Turbo II around all the time.

A "rare" RX-7, like a GTUs, is only worth more in the minds of those who know what it is...to the rest of the world, its a 10 year old RX-7.

Yah, maybe a sweet GTUs would be worth more than a 'normal' Turbo II. But what about the 10th anni Turbo II? Its pretty much the same as any other TII but its still the 10th anniversary edition. Only 1500 made.

I don't think the GTUs or AE aren't worth anything more unless you find someone that will buy one and nothing else.

89-90 GTU is a base model, open differential, 15" rims, single piston front brakes
89-90 GTUs *turbo without a turbo* four piston front calipers, 16" TII rims, turbo suspension, all this from the factory

weren't there 1200 GTUs made ? correct me if i'm wrong here

well...

the car is only worth as much as the amount of love and care an owner gives to it...GTUs, AE, 91 Turbo II or any car for that matter.

lowrider65,

The GTU-S is designed for SCCA track racing (non turbo). The GTU-S is the lightest weight 2nd gen, has better gearing for 0-60, and is pretty rare - especially in black and white (red is the most plentiful color).

2FAST7S,

Ever though about bolting on a paxton supercharger like road runner?? http://www.geocities.com/boatseason/

Here's some specs on that car:

Nelson Supercharger (50 state legal) Paxton SN2000 HO Blower with B&M Racing Cooler
Mariah Motorsports Naca Duct Headlight Cover feeds a K&N filter in a Mariah Motorsports Cold Air Box
High Pressure Fuel Pump
Mazda RX-7 Turbo II Fuel Injectors
Corky Bell adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator
Jacobs Spark Plug Wires
HPC coated Mind Train Header
A'PEXi GT Stainless Steel Exhaust
Kosei S5R Wheels - 17 x 8 Front, 17 x 9 Rear
MazdaSpeed adjustable coil-over shocks
Suspension Techniques Sway Bars with Racing Beat end links
Mazda Competition Adjustable Rear Camber Link
Hawk Brake Pads with Mazda Competition Stainless Steel Brake Lines
Mazda Competition Motor Mounts and Transmission Mounts
C's Short Shifter
Tri-Point Engineering Air/Fuel Ratio Meter
Optima Battery Relocated to passenger-side rear storage compartment
ProDyno tuned, 223 RWHP.

Yo,

Welcome to the club! Is yours a 1989 or 1990? What color?

The easiest way to tell if you have a GTUs is the lack of sunroof, manual windows, no rear wiper, non-adjustable steering wheel, no map pockets, cloth seats...and when you are at 80mph, you should be around 4,000rpm. That's the 4.30 rear end suckin' your gas down. *grin*

A diamond has no value except that which is placed upon it. Too bad KBB doesn't see eye to eye with us.

I have a GTU with the brake upgrade. So I have 4 piston brakes with vented rotors. I got 4.33 LSD rear diff. All I need to do is get rid of all the power options, but I don't know about that.

The 86-88 base is the lightest second gen (2625 lbs)...the GTUs is the lightest series 5 is all (2800 lbs) according to the 'sports car color history' book of our beloved sevens. Consider the GTU's the Turbo II sans turbocharger.

OK so which one is the RAREST FC??

The 88 AE (The white GXL with a turbo )?
88 GTU (the original)?
or the 89-90 GTUs (the bad ***)? also notice the 2 years of productions versus the one year on the rest.

Yo,

I would say the 1989-1990 GTUs qualifies as the "Rarest" RX-7. It's estimated that between 900-1100 were made in 1989, and it's documented that only 100 were made in 1990. So you're looking at approximately 1200 made, compared to the documented 1500 10th AE's. I don't know about the 1988 GTU, except that Mazda was still selling boatloads of Series 4 back then...

A word about the 1993 CYM FD R1's, they only made about 500 of them. Wouldn't that make them the rarest? Nope, IMHO, it's just a paint code, not a specific model. If they just made 500 R1's, then yeah....
