rev limiter only in 3rd gear

i was going on the interstate the other day and i gunned it down the offramp and when i hit 3rd gear around 4500-5000 rpm it hit a rev limiter (not fuel cut), it just started doing this.

any thoughts?

this may help. its from Icemark and is in the 2nd gen FAQ:

"I have this hesitation whenever I accelerate right around 3500-4000 RPM
The dreaded 3800 RPM hesitation is cause 90% of the time by poor ground connections between the engine, the battery, and the car. Clean or replace all the under hood ground connections. On 86 model year cars , replacing/regrounding the pressure sensor's ground wire has helped (do not re-ground a 87 or later model year). If there is still a problem after that, look at cleaning the fuel injectors and (on a N/A) that your 5th/6th ports are operating correctly."

Where's the presssure sensor ground wire? I've had an 86 for 12 years and never checked any of the grounds but never had any problems either

Pull the plug off the boost sensor and it's the brown/black wire. Splices to the ground wires going to the ECU ground(s) located on the top of the rear rotor housing.

Did it do it just once or is it a constant problem now?

you probably hit fuel cut due to boost creep.

is it a turbo?
