The surest way to determine it's a GTUs is get the VIN and call Mazda of North America. They'll tell you exactly what the car is. They verified for me that the car was a '90 GTUs.

Hahahahahahaha! GTUs' aren't worth anything. It's still an NA FC. Just because it was one of 200 in that year doesn't make it worth more money. There were 100,000 other S5's made, and the only differences are small things like sunroof, brakes, stereo, wheels, etc etc.
Just take the car and drive it, have fun with it, don't expect it to be worth a lot of money in 10 years.

I plan on having fun with it but your wrong about it not being worth anything in ten years.
They said the same thing about mustang's and camaro's how ever many
years ago.

I don't get your guys problem with the GTUs, and Roen you should have more respect for your cars model just because there are other models with more potential doesn't mean the GTUs isn't going to be a valuable car in the distant future.

I have a GTUs, do I think it's extremely special? Not really, I can get a S5 GTU base model, get some GXL springs, sway bars and brakes and be 90% of the way there to a GTUs. Only things I'm missing are the GTUs 5th gear and the rear diff.
The reason why I like the GTUs is because its existence allows me to put a 4.3 ring gear and any LSD I want in any NA model and still be legal in some race classes.
I don't really see why you think the 90's GTUs is so special.
Technically, it is the rarest model released, but it wasn't made in 1990. It was made as part of the 1989 GTUs line. The 90's were the one's Mazda couldn't sell in 89, so they were re-stamped at the factory. It's not like Mazda went and made 100 new GTUs for the 1990 model year.
The AE is more collectible as it was released in recognition of an achievement. The GTUs was just released to fill in the gap left by not having a sport model in 1989.
Besides, a collectible car would have little to no miles on the car, like the 6k original miles 10th AE that's in Florida. Yes, 6000 original miles, all stock. That is a nice collector's car.
I haven't seen a GTUs that low ever. Besides, the only difference between your's and mine is the scratch mark you have on your vin stamp. Do you really think that makes your car a collector's model?

From what I personally have read on this forum is the GTUs was origonally supposed to have a 20b, and all this other **** making to supposed to be a prepubesence mazdaspeed rx-7 of sorts, or was that the 10th AE that was going to get a twin turbo 20b?, its hard to remeber how much bullshit thats been said.
to the OP
gtus or not, its still an rx-7, love it tenderly.

Originally the the GTUs was to have a normally aspirated 3 rotor engine (the 20B), but pre-production fuel mileage and cooling issues forced Mazda to go another route.
