ok everyone my question is what is the stock gear ratio in an fc3s turbo2. all the aftermarket gears ive seen are high like 4.10 and 4.30. i find this wierd because when i use to work on mustangs (yes im a converted rotor man) 4.10s are pretty high and arent that good for everyday highway driving. is it the same with sevens? thanks you guys are very helpfull. i dont even own a seven YET but im looking for one now. ive picked up so much information from you guys. before i found this this site my learning consisted of reading all of every f.a.q i could find and visiting every website i could find. to this day i cant find any new websites about fc's.
ha i got 5.12's in my 2nd gen
yea all 2nd gens are 4.10, and i think they do well with that ratio. i never understood why the mustangs and other cars had like 2.7 ratio's, lol just different i guess

There was a special model in Japan.I'm not sure if it was the Efini model or not that had 4.3s in it.Mazdatrix,Racing Beat and Rotary Performance all sell 4.3 gearsets for both the Turbo and Non-Turbo models.I like the 4.3 in my car but that's all I know since my car came with it.Personally I would say yes but then again I've never really driven one with the 4.10 gears. If I ever get my TII project on the road I'll evetually put 4.3s in it.

Another thing you forgot to mention about the Mustangs very low final drive ratio is that the tranny ratios are actually higher than the RX7 trannies. Therefore, the final needs to be lower to get the same overall ratio. But the part abot V8's having the low end and lower redline is more important.

Well if you kind find some 5.12's you could use 'em, but your Highway Gas mileage is gonna suck, and your gonna be shifting mad quick yo. But it will make your car kick *** of the line and for doing the 1/4 mile and stuff...its a tradeoff...
The problem with the 5.12 and 4.88 ring and pinions is that they need to be modified to fit. They are sourced from the early RX3s and 1st gen RX7s. The pinion snout is shorter than a 2nd gens and the pinion gear needs to be cut in half, extended, welded back together and trued. Very expensive.
The only economical options are 3.90, 4.10 and 4.30.
