flooding?!

Ok well if anyone read the other post i dropped a bolt in lucky me i got it out with a flexi magnet from pepboys lmfao best 10$ i ever sepnt. well anyhow. I got everything together..just for spec reasons i have NO emissions components on anymore i have blocked them all out.. well anyhow i just rebuilt this motor and i tried to start it for the first time today and it wouldnt start. it seems like its flooing, really bad. smoke out the exhaust and it smells like raw fuel. ok now when i disconnect the fuel pump and get all the fuel out and then reconnect it it at first trieds to start and then the last time i tried it i used some starting fluid and then tried it started and ran for about 3 seconds and died. i reconnected the fuel pump and tried it again it was about to turn over and run and then it just went back to that sound you get when you know it wont start.. sorry for the story but i dont really know what else to say..can anyone help. I'm going to take teh manifold off tomorrow to make sure the injectors are hooked up right but i dont know how i could ..and yeah it is timed on the marks i checked before i went home. thnaks for anyhelp..

Take out the BMI fuse underneath the hood, near the left suspension in the engine bay. There should be a fuse box, take the cover off, and take the BMI fuse out. Crank the motor for like 5 or 6 seconds with the fuse deattached. Now put the fuse back in, and start it up. Also at startup don't pump the gas, only push it down all the way.

Well. It's a rebuild it will flood.

Check for things.

An engine starting then dying off could mean you forgot to plug the AFM back in(I've done it)

Then check for spark.(easy/pull the plug and put it near a ground and watch for spark)
Then for gas.(flood engine to ungodly level/then pull 1 plug from 1 rotor at a time/see if a huge gas cloud poofs out/NO SPARK DURING THIS TEST!)
Make sure all your grounds are in place.

Are they new/cleaned injectors? Maybe ones clogged/leaking?

Just start eliminating things.
Verify spark,gas, timing.

If you need.
Pull/push start the car.

I had to do this a few times in mine.

I have a feeling the emissions removal stuff is messing with you. Probably more than a couple vac leaks...

Are both of the leading plugs wet when you pull them?

Are the rotor housings used? If so, you may not enough compression yet for an easy start. You could try pulling the plugs & drying them off real good, then injecting some engine oil through the leading plug holes into each rotor housing, and once she starts, don't let her die!

hey to start off with are u 100% sure u have spark?
if it fired up shortly with the starting fluid u sprayed in and it doesnt want to fire otherwise, I would say u have no fuel delivery at all
check that your pump has sufficient volume and pressure
check that all your injectors are plugged in and go from there

I positive about spark and timing and i checked the plugs when i pulled them all out they were drenched in fuel. I'll try a few thing and see what happens..

ok, well i got the timing right. and i got it to idle off of starting fluid for a few seconds and then when i plugged in the fuel pump it started to die out then stall and then when i went to start it rigth back up with the fuel pump plugged in it went to start and the battery started to die and so its charging over night. and try it again tomorrow and suggestions ohh and, how would i be able to tell if the injectors are bad when i take them out or to see if they are stuck open? thanks!

its hard to tell if your injectors are working without pulling them.
if you could get the car to run at all, you could use a stethescope or similar device to listen for injector pulse. if you want to pull the injectors, you can simply use a 12v source to see if they spray with the fuel pump on. you could try (when the motors stone cold and power off) pulling the fuel rail after cranking to see if theres pressure in the system.

ive heard however, that its completely natural for a new rebuild to have startup problems, as there will be compression issues. just be prepared for flooding, and check the plugs for signs of gas
